Page 5ETS 300 484: September 1996ForewordThis European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) has been produced by the Transmission andMultiplexing (TM) Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).The ETS describes managed object classes of the information model for Network Elements (NEs), whichprovide the connection supervision function (Higher order Connection Supervision / Lower orderConnection Supervision (HCS/LCS)).Transposition datesDate of adoption of this ETS:16 August 1996Date of latest announcement of this ETS (doa):31 December 1996Date of latest publication of new National Standardor endorsement of this ETS (dop/e):30 June 1997Date of withdrawal of any conflicting National Standard (dow):30 June 1997SIST ETS 300 484 E1:2003

Page 7ETS 300 484: September 19961ScopeThis European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) defines the information model to be used at theinterface between Network Elements (NEs) and management systems, for the management of NEs whichuse the connection supervision function (Higher Order Connection Supervision / Lower Order ConnectionSupervision (HCS/LCS)).This ETS defines:-the information model for Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) NEs using connection supervisionfunction. This ETS does not define:-the protocol stack to be used for message communication;-the network level management processes;-the application contexts;-the conformance requirements to be met by an implementation of this information model;-information models for other systems or equipment. The information model (and the corresponding message set) defined in this ETS is concerned with themanagement of NEs, the equipment by which they are implemented and the functions contained withinthem. More precisely, it applies to an equipment domain visible at the element manager to elementinterface and is only concerned with information available within that domain. Information proper to thedomain of a network level management process is not included within this model. The HCS and LCS functional blocks (connection supervision) are specified as optional components and astandardized modelling at the Q3 interface is provided by this ETS. The connection supervisionfunctionality is included into subclasses of SDH connection termination points.2Normative referencesThis ETS incorporates by dated and undated reference, provisions from other publications. Thesenormative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listedhereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publicationsapply to this ETS only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the latestedition of the publication referred to applies.[1]ITU-T Recommendation G.774 (1992): "Synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH)management information model for the network element view".[2]ITU-T Recommendation G.774.05 (1995): "Synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH)management of connection supervision functionality (HCS/LCS) for the networkelement view".[3]ITU-T Recommendation G.783 (1993): "Characteristics of synchronous digitalhierarchy (SDH) equipment functional blocks".SIST ETS 300 484 E1:2003
