This document specifies test methods for the determination of tensile properties of polymeric geosynthetic barriers (PE (PEHD and PELLD, FPO (EVA, FPP, and PEVLD), PVC-P and EPDM).
Method A is suitable for testing polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBRP), PVC, EPDM and FPO (EVA, FPP and PEVLD), non-reinforced (including 80gsm glass fleece) and without backing.
Method B is suitable for testing polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBRP), PE (HDPE and PELLD), non-reinforced and without backing.
Method C is suitable for testing polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBRP), reinforced and/or with  backing.
Method D is suitable for measuring modulus (if required) of all non-reinforced products.

Dieses Dokument legt Prüfverfahren für die Bestimmung von Zugeigenschaften von geosynthetischen Kunststoffdichtungsbahnen aus PE (z. B. PE HD und PE LLD), FPO (z. B. EVA, FPP und PE VLD), PVC P und EPDM fest.
Verfahren A eignet sich für die Prüfung von geosynthetischen Kunststoffdichtungsbahnen (GBR P) aus PVC P, EPDM und FPO (z. B. EVA, FPP und PE VLD), nicht bewehrt (einschließlich höchstens 80 g/m2 Glasvlies) und ohne Kaschierung.
Verfahren B eignet sich für die Prüfung von geosynthetischen Kunststoffdichtungsbahnen (GBR P) aus PE (z. B. PE HD und PE LLD), nicht bewehrt und ohne Kaschierung.

ANMERKUNG Für vorstehend nicht aufgeführte homogene Polymere können Verfahren A und D angewendet werden.

Ce document traite des méthodes d’essai pour la détermination des propriétés en traction des géomembranes polymériques PE (comme par exemple PE-HD et PE-LLD), FPO (comme par exemple EVA, FPP, et PE-VLD), PVC-P et EPDM.
La méthode A est adaptée à l’essai des géomembranes polymériques (GBR-P) en PVC-P, EPDM et FPO (comme par exemple EVA, FPP et PE-VLD), non renforcées (y compris les voiles de verre 80 g/m2) et sans couche support.
La méthode B est adaptée à l’essai des géomembranes polymériques (GBR-P) constituées de PE (comme par exemple HDPE et PE-LLD), non renforcées et sans couche support.

1 Scope
This document specifies test methods for the determination of tensile properties of polymeric
geosynthetic barriers PE (e.g. PE-HD and PE-LLD), FPO (e.g. EVA, FPP, and PE-VLD), PVC-P and EPDM.
Method A is suitable for testing polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBR-P), made of PVC-P, EPDM and

FPO (e.g. EVA, FPP and PE-VLD), non-reinforced (including maximum 80 g/m glass fleece) and without
backing.
Method B is suitable for testing polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBR-P) made of PE (e.g. PE-HD and
PE-LLD), non-reinforced and without backing.
Method C is suitable for testing polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBR-P), reinforced and/or with
backing.
Method D is suitable for measuring modulus (if required) of all non-reinforced GBR-P.

4 Principle
The test specimen is extended along its major longitudinal axis at a constant speed until the specimen
ruptures. The force and increase in specimen length are continuously recorded throughout the test.
5 Apparatus
5.1 Testing machine
Tensile testing machine (constant rate of extension) complying with EN ISO 7500-1, class 1 or better, in
which the rate of increase in specimen length is uniform with time, fitted with a set of clamps or jaws
which are sufficiently wide to hold the entire width of the specimen and equipped with appropriate
means to limit slippage or damage.
5.2 Extensometer (where required)
Capable of measuring the distance between gauge marks on the specimen without any damage to the
specimen or slippage, ensuring that the measurement represents the true movement of the gauge
marks. Example: mechanical, optical, infrared or other types. All with an electrical output.
The extensometer shall be capable of measuring to an accuracy of ± 2 % of the indicated reading.
If any irregularity of the stress/strain (elongation) curve due to the extensometer is observed, this
result shall be discarded and another specimen shall be tested.

6 Test specimens
6.1 Preparation of test specimens
Prepare the test specimens over the full roll width and in accordance with EN ISO 9862.
The test specimens shall be punched so that the edges are smooth and free from notches: examination
with a low-power magnifier is recommended to check the absence of notches. Punch dies shall be kept
sharp by regular honing, and a suitable backing material shall be used with punch dies to ensure a
clean-cut edge.
A set of test specimens (machine and cross machine direction) with a mesh or fabric internal layer,
backing or laminated reinforcement shall have the same number of threads. Cutting of threads should
be avoided.
The test specimens shown in Figures 1, 2 and 4 shall be obtained by the use of punch dies.
6.2 Number of test specimens
Prepare a minimum of five test specimens in both the machine and cross-machine directions.

4 Principle
The test specimen is extended along its major longitudinal axis at a constant speed until the specimen
ruptures. The force and elongation is continuously recorded throughout the test.

5 Apparatus
5.1 Testing machine
5.1.1 General
Tensile testing machine (constant rate of extension) complying with EN ISO 7500-1, class 1 or better, in
which the rate of increase in specimen length is uniform with time, fitted with a set of clamps or jaws
which are sufficiently wide to hold the entire width of the specimen and equipped with appropriate
means to limit slippage or damage.
5.1.2 Extensometer (where required)
Capable of measuring the distance between two reference points on the specimen without any damage
to the specimen or slippage, care being taken to ensure that the measurement represents the true
movement of the reference points. Example: mechanical, optical, infrared or other types. All with an
electrical output.
The extensometer shall be capable of measuring to an accuracy of +/- 2 % of the indicated reading. If
any irregularity of the stress/strain curve due to the extensometer is observed, this result shall be
discarded and another specimen shall be tested.
6 Test specimens
6.1 Preparation of test specimens
Prepare the test specimens over the full roll width and in accordance with EN ISO 9862.
The test specimens shall be punched so that the edges are smooth and free from notches: examination
with a low-power magnifier is recommended to check the absence of notches. Punch dies shall be kept
sharp by regular honing, and a suitable backing material shall be used with punch dies to ensure a
clean-cut edge.
A set of test specimens (longitudinal or transverse direction) with a mesh or fabric internal layer,
backing or laminated reinforcement shall have the same number of treads. Cutting of threads should be
avoided.
The test specimens shown in Figures 1, 2 and 4 shall be obtained by the use of punch dies.
6.2 Number of test specimens
Prepare a minimum of five test specimens in both the machine and cross-machine directions.
