SIST EN 2702:2006 is the Slovenian adoption of EN 2702:2005, published by SIST for aerospace aluminium products. It specifies the requirements for aluminium alloy AL-P6061 in T6 or T62 condition, supplied as drawn or extruded bar and section with a or D ≤ 200 mm, for aerospace applications.
What does SIST EN 2702:2006 specify?
SIST EN 2702:2006 specifies the material and acceptance requirements for a specific aerospace aluminium product. It covers the alloy, temper, product form and size range, and it ties many inspection and qualification details to EN 4400-3.
The document is organized around a short front matter, a Scope, Normative references, and a detailed requirements table. That table is where the alloy composition, processing condition, mechanical properties, inspection items and qualification links are set out.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 2702:2006?
SIST EN 2702:2006 is a product standard, so the first control point is whether the material matches the exact alloy, temper, form and size in the Scope. In practice, it applies only to AL-P6061 in T6 or T62 condition, made as drawn or extruded bar and section within the stated size limit.
- The chemical composition table sets minimum and maximum limits for the alloying elements. This matters because the melt analysis is part of supplier acceptance and certificate review.
- The document identifies the permitted forms and production routes as bar and section, drawn or extruded. That tells the buyer and manufacturer which product routes are covered.
- The table gives delivery conditions and use conditions for the allowed tempers, including T6 and T62. This matters because the heat-treatment state has to match the ordered condition and the intended aerospace use.
- Mechanical property requirements at ambient temperature include 0.2% proof stress, tensile strength and elongation. In practice, these are the core acceptance results used to show the product meets the standard.
- The test direction is L and the test temperature is ambient for the stated property checks. That is important because mechanical results depend on both orientation and test temperature.
- Test samples and test pieces are taken according to EN 4400-3. This means the sampling and test preparation rules are not repeated here and must be applied from the companion specification.
- External defects, internal defects, batch uniformity, extrusion back-end defect, marking inspection and dimensional inspection are all referenced to EN 4400-3. In practice, quality control has to cover both mechanical properties and product appearance, dimensions and traceability.
- Product qualification is also tied to EN 4400-3, with the qualification programme agreed between manufacturer and purchaser. That makes qualification a planned, documented step rather than an ad hoc check.
What terms does SIST EN 2702:2006 define?
SIST EN 2702:2006 uses a small set of technical terms that are central to ordering and testing the product.
- AL-P6061 - the aluminium alloy covered by the standard.
- T6 - one of the specified heat-treatment or delivery conditions for this alloy.
- T62 - another specified heat-treatment or delivery condition for this alloy.
- Rp0,2 - the 0.2% proof stress used as one of the mechanical acceptance values.
- Rm - the tensile strength requirement used in the mechanical table.
- A or A50mm - the elongation measure used to judge ductility after testing.
- L - the test direction specified for the mechanical test pieces.
- EN 4400-3 - the companion technical specification used for sampling, defects, inspection and qualification details.
Who uses SIST EN 2702:2006?
SIST EN 2702:2006 is used by aerospace material suppliers, extruders, heat treaters, purchasers and quality teams handling aluminium bars and sections. It is also used by laboratories and inspection personnel who need the correct test conditions, sample rules and acceptance criteria.
For buyers, the standard helps specify the exact alloy, temper and size range. For manufacturers, it defines the product route, mechanical targets and linked inspection rules. For quality managers, it provides the basis for incoming inspection, certificate checks, dimensional control and qualification planning.
What changed in SIST EN 2702:2006 from the previous edition?
SIST EN 2702:2006 is identical to EN 2702:2005.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 2702:2006?
SIST EN 2702:2006 relies on three normative references, each supplying a different part of the framework.
- EN 4258 - gives the general organization of metallic materials standardization and the links between EN standard types.
- EN 4400-3 - gives the technical specification for aluminium and aluminium alloy wrought products, Part 3: Bar and section, and supplies the sampling, defect and qualification rules used by this standard.
- EN 4500-2 - gives the rules for drafting and presentation of material standards, with specific rules for aluminium, aluminium alloys and magnesium alloys.
What does the SIST EN 2702:2006 document contain?
The document contains a detailed requirements table that covers material designation, chemical composition, method of melting, form, method of production, dimensional limit, technical specification, delivery condition, use condition, test direction and mechanical properties. It also includes inspection items for defects, batch uniformity, marking, dimensional inspection and product qualification.
Several entries point directly to EN 4400-3 for test samples, test pieces and acceptance checks. The table also records the heat-treatment routes associated with the listed tempers and the mechanical property items used for acceptance.
