This standard is intended as a guide to the selection of a suitable material and is connected with compatibility of non-metallic materials with gases which may be in the cylinders or the cylinder valves. This standard may be helpful for composite and laminated materials. Other aspects such as quality of delivered gas are not considered. Only the influence of the gas in changing the material and mechanical properties is considered (for example chemical reaction or change in physical state).

Diese Europäische Norm gibt Leitlinien für die Auswahl und Bewertung der Verträglichkeit zwischen nichtmetallischen Gasflaschen und Ventilwerkstoffen mit den in Berührung kommenden Gasen. Die Norm gilt auch für Bündel, Großflaschen und Fässer. Diese Norm kann bei Verbund- und Laminarwerkstoffen von Nutzen sein. Es wird nur die Auswirkung des Gases auf Änderung der Werkstoff- und mechanischen Eigenschaften behandelt (z.B. chemische Reaktion oder Änderung des Aggregatzustandes).

La présente norme européenne donne des lignes directrices pour la sélection et l'évaluation de la compatibilité entre les matériaux non métalliques des bouteilles a gaz/robinets avec le contenu gazeux. La présente norme couvre également les cadres, tubes et tambours sous pression. La présente norme peut se révéler utile pour les matériaux composites et les matériaux stratifiés. Seule l'influence du gaz sur la transformation du matériau ou sur la modification de ses propriétés mécaniques est considérée (p.e. une réaction chimique ou une modification de l'état physique).
