The purpose of this part of IEC 61300 is for testing fibre optic interconnecting components and closures. The object of this test is to define a standard test method to assess the effects of short term exposure to fluids and lubricants on fibre optic interconnecting components and closures.

La CEI 61300-2-34:2009 est relatif aux essais des composants d'interconnexion et des boîtiers pour fibres optiques. L'objet de cet essai est de définir une méthode d'essai normalisée destinée à évaluer les effets d'une exposition de courte durée des composants d'interconnexion et des boîtiers pour fibres optiques aux fluides et lubrifiants. Les principales modifications par rapport à l'édition précédente sont les suivantes: la procédure et la sévérité ont été réexaminées.

Foreword
The text of document 86B/2826/FDIS, future edition 2 of IEC 61300-2-34, prepared by SC 86B, Fibre
optic interconnecting devices and passive components, of IEC TC 86, Fibre optics, was submitted to the
IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 61300-2-34 on 2009-06-01.
This European Standard supersedes EN 61300-2-34:1997.
The main changes from EN 61300-2-34:1997 are as follows: the procedure and severity have been
reconsidered.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2010-03-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2010-06-01
Annex ZA has been added by CENELEC.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC
