SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003 is the Slovenian version of ETS 300 202/A1 Edition 1, an ETSI amendment to the ISDN Call Deflection (CD) supplementary service description. It clarifies how CD interacts with Call Waiting (CW), especially when a call is already alerting or has been diverted.

What does SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003 specify?

SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003 specifies amendment text for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Call Deflection (CD) supplementary service. Its purpose is to clarify the interaction with Call Waiting (CW) and the related notification behavior.

The amendment is organized as front matter, a foreword, the amendment instructions, and document history. The practical focus is on clause 7 and subclause 8.2 of ETS 300 202 (1994), where the additional wording is to be inserted.

What are the key requirements of SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003?

The amendment adds service interaction rules that matter when CD and CW can happen on the same call path. In practice, these rules tell the network when a call waiting notification may be sent, when it must not be sent, and how multiple diversions are handled.

Clause 7 - limits on suppressing notification

Clause 7 adds that an ISDN user’s request not to send a call waiting notification to a calling user may not always be met, for example for voice notification when the calling user is outside the called user’s ISDN. In practice, this tells implementers and operators that notification suppression is not guaranteed in every network situation.

Subclause 8.2 - interaction after alerting

Subclause 8.2 states that when receiving the call waiting indication, user B can invoke CD. This means the standard allows the called user to move from a waiting-call situation into call deflection handling.

The same subclause says that, for call deflection after alerting, if the diverting user has set the subscription option “Calling user receives notification that the call has been deflected” to “No”, then no call waiting notification shall be sent to the calling user from the deflected-to user. In practice, service logic must respect that subscription setting before notifying the caller.

Multiple diversions

Subclause 8.2 also adds a rule for multiple diversions: a call waiting notification shall only be sent to the calling user if all diverting users allow notification that the call has been deflected. This matters for networks that chain more than one diversion decision, because every diversion point affects whether notification is permitted.

Deflected calls can still trigger CW

The amendment states that a deflected call can invoke the call waiting supplementary service. In practice, this means CD does not block later CW handling, so implementations need to support both services in the same call flow.

What terms does SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003 define?

  • Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) - The digital network context for the service described by the amendment.
  • Call Deflection (CD) - The supplementary service that redirects a call away from its original destination.
  • Call Waiting (CW) - The supplementary service referred to when a waiting-call notification is involved.
  • calling user - The user placing the call and receiving, or not receiving, notification about the deflected call.
  • diverting user - The user whose subscription settings control whether the call is deflected and whether notification is allowed.
  • deflected-to user - The user to whom the call is sent after deflection.
  • call waiting indication - The signal shown to the called user that another call is waiting.

Who uses SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003?

Network operators, ISDN service designers, switch and software vendors, and interoperability testers use this amendment when implementing or checking CD and CW behavior. Quality managers and buyers can also use it to confirm that a supplier’s ISDN platform handles call deflection and call waiting interaction in the way the service description expects.

What changed in SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003 from the previous edition?

Compared with ETS 300 202 (1994), this amendment adds text to clarify the interaction between CD and CW. The change focuses on notification behavior after alerting, the effect of subscription settings, and how multiple diversions affect whether the calling user receives notification.

Which standards are used with SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003?

  • ETS 300 202 (1994) - The base ISDN Call Deflection service description that this amendment modifies.

What does the SIST ETS 300 202/A1 E1:2003 document contain?

The document contains the amendment instructions that specify where new text is to be inserted in clause 7 and subclause 8.2 of ETS 300 202 (1994). It also includes the foreword, which explains the purpose of the amendment, and the transposition dates used for adoption and implementation. The history section records the document lineage from the first edition through Amendment 1.
