Bitumen and bituminous binders - Determination of the pH value of bituminous emulsions
This European Standard specifies a method for measuring the pH value of bituminous emulsions.
It is applicable to anionic, cationic and non-ionic bitumen emulsions.
NOTE In certain circumstances, the pH value can provide an indication of the ionic character of a bitumen emulsion. However, this indication should be confirmed by a particle polarity test conforming to EN 1430 [1].

Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des pH-Wertes von Bitumenemulsionen fest.
Sie ist auf anionische, kationische und nichtionische Bitumenemulsionen anwendbar.
ANMERKUNG Unter bestimmten Umständen kann der pH-Wert einen Hinweis auf den Ionencharakter einer Bitumen¬emulsion geben. Dieser Hinweis sollte jedoch durch eine Prüfung der Teilchenpolarität nach EN 1430 [1] bestätigt werden.
WARNUNG Die Anwendung dieser Norm kann den Umgang mit gefährlichen Substanzen und Aus¬rüstungsteilen und die Ausführung gefährlicher Arbeitsgänge einschließen. Diese Norm erhebt nicht den Anspruch, alle mit ihrer Anwendung verbundenen Sicherheitsprobleme anzusprechen. Bitumes et liants bitumineux - Détermination du pH des émulsions de bitume
La présente Norme européenne prescrit une méthode pour la détermination du pH des émulsions de bitume.
Elle est applicable aux émulsions de bitume anioniques, cationiques et non-ioniques.
NOTE Dans certains cas, la valeur du pH peut fournir une indication sur le caractère ionique de l’émulsion de bitume.
Toutefois, il convient de confirmer cette indication en effectuant un essai de détermination de la polarité des particules
conformément à l’EN 1430 [1].

EN 12850:2009 (E) 3 Foreword This document (EN 12850:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 336 “Bituminous binders”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2009, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2009. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. This document supersedes EN 12850:2002. From the previous edition, use of any cleaning agent enabling the dissolution of bitumen is now specified.
