General Information
Overview
EN 2600:2018 - Aerospace series: Designation of metallic semi-finished products - Rules defines the rules for how metallic semi-finished products used in aerospace construction are designated. The standard sets a consistent, coded identity block format (the European standard block + a particular product block) so material standards, manufacturers, purchasers and regulators can unambiguously identify semi-finished items when the product standard calls up EN 2600.
Key Topics
- Scope and applicability
- Applies only to metallic semi-finished products listed in the referenced table and only when a metallic semi-finished product standard refers to EN 2600.
- Designation scheme
- Structure of the identity block: the European standard block (material standard number) and the particular product block (product-specific data).
- Particular product block components
- Delivery heat treatment condition code - a one-character alphabetical code defined in EN 2032-2 (normative reference).
- Semi-finished product standard code - a two-character numeric code (provided in Annex A).
- Dimension data - two permitted methods:
- Method A: only the cross-section dimensions that distinguish the product (partial data).
- Method B: all dimensions coded in a fixed sequence.
- Coding tables and annexes
- Annex A: codes for semi-finished product standards.
- Annex B: comprehensive codes for thickness, diameter, width, length and other dimensional values.
- Annex C: coded cross-section dimensions for many section types (L, U, T, channel, tubes, etc.).
- Annex D: identity block examples illustrating correct use.
Applications
- Procurement and specification - Use EN 2600-coded identity blocks in purchase orders and drawings to avoid ambiguity about the exact semi-finished form delivered.
- Manufacturing and production planning - Enables consistent interpretation of supplied semi-finished shapes and sizes across suppliers and factories.
- Quality assurance and traceability - Facilitates traceable identification of material condition (via EN 2032-2 code), dimensions and originating standard.
- Standards alignment and documentation - Ensures material standards, semi-finished product standards and aerospace industry documents share a common designation practice.
Who uses this standard
- Aerospace materials engineers and design engineers
- Procurement specialists and supply chain managers
- Manufacturers of semi-finished metallic products and forging/extrusion houses
- Quality managers, inspectors and certification bodies
- Standards writers and document controllers
Related standards
- EN 2032-2 (referenced normative document) - defines the coding of metallurgical delivery condition used in EN 2600 identity blocks.
EN 2600:2018 supports clear, machine-readable and human-readable designation of metallic semi-finished products in aerospace, improving specification accuracy, procurement efficiency and material traceability.

EN 2032-2, Aerospace series — Metallic materials — Part 2: Coding of metallurgical condition in delivery condition 3 Designation scheme The designation of a metallic semi-finished product is made up according to the directives in force. Among those directives concerning the description block, the originator code and the identity block, only the latter requires additional data. This data concerns the two components of the identity block: the “European standard block” and the “Particular product block”. Examples of the identity block are given in Annex D. 3.1 European standard block The European standard block consists of the material standard number. 3.2 Particular product block This particular product block consists, in sequence, of the following: 3.2.1 The delivery heat treatment condition code of the semi-finished product This alphabetical code (one character) defined in EN 2032-2 is called-up in the material standards. 3.2.2 The semi-finished product standard code This numerical code (two characters) is called-up in: Annex A; each semi-finished product standard; the corresponding material standards. 3.2.3 Data concerning dimensions Depending on the use of the identity block, this data is either partial (method A) or complete (method B). SIST EN 2600:2019
Millimetres are systematically to be preceded by a hyphen (–). the sequence of the codes for cross-sections, requiring more than one dimension, shall be indicated.
