SIST EN 301 155 V1.1.1:2003 is the Slovenian standard identical to ETSI EN 301 155 V1.1.1, published by SIST for Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) performance management. It specifies an information model for unidirectional performance monitoring at the Network Element (NE) view, so SDH equipment and management systems can represent and exchange performance data in a common way. The model is intended for Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) environments that manage SDH Network Elements.

What does SIST EN 301 155 V1.1.1:2003 specify?

SIST EN 301 155 V1.1.1:2003 specifies an information model for unidirectional performance monitoring of SDH network elements. In practice, it tells implementers how to model the managed objects and their properties that carry performance data and quality-of-service alarms at the element-manager to element interface.

The document is organized into clauses on scope, references, abbreviations, the performance monitoring management model, managed object class definitions, packages, attributes, actions, notifications, parameters, and name bindings, followed by Annex A (informative) with a bibliography.

The scope also limits the model to information available within the equipment domain of the NE view. It leaves out the protocol stack, network-level management processes, application contexts, conformance requirements, and models for other systems or equipment.

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 301 155 V1.1.1:2003?

The standard is mainly an object model specification, not a protocol or test standard. Its key content is the structure needed to represent SDH unidirectional performance monitoring data consistently.

Performance monitoring model

Clause 4 says the SDH performance monitoring requirements are described in ITU-T Recommendation G.774.01 clause 5 and ITU-T Recommendation G.774.06 clause 5. The standard builds on those requirements, so users of this document need to align their management model with the related SDH performance monitoring work already defined there.

Clause 1 also ties the model to ITU-T Recommendation G.784, ITU-T Recommendation M.2120, ITU-T Recommendation M.3010, and ITU-T Recommendation Q.822. In practice, that means the model is meant for TMN-style management of SDH NEs and uses the generic Q3 performance management approach from Q.822.

Managed object content

Clauses 5, 6 and 7 define what object classes, packages and attributes are imported into this model. The named imports include current-data and history-data object classes, UAS packages, and the nEUAS and fEUAS attributes. For implementers, this is the core interoperability point: the management system and the NE need to speak the same managed object vocabulary.

Operations and events

Clauses 8, 9 and 10 are explicit: there are no actions, no notifications and no parameters. That means the document is focused on the data model itself rather than on active control operations or event reporting behavior.

Name bindings

Clause 11 provides name bindings for the current-data objects to SDH sink contexts such as msTTPSink, vc4TTPSink, vc3TTPSink, vc2TTPSink, vc12TTPSink, vc11TTPSink, au4SupervisedCTPSink, au3SupervisedCTPSink, tu3SupervisedCTPSink, tu2SupervisedCTPSink, tu12SupervisedCTPSink and tu11SupervisedCTPSink, including TR and R1 variants where applicable. This is the part that tells an implementer where each performance object attaches in the SDH hierarchy.

What terms does SIST EN 301 155 V1.1.1:2003 define?

  • NE - Network Element, the SDH equipment domain that the model describes.
  • SDH - Synchronous Digital Hierarchy, the transport technology covered by the standard.
  • TMN - Telecommunications Management Network, the management architecture used for the information exchange.
  • Q3 Interface - the management interface referenced for performance management in the related ETSI/ITU-T model family.
  • current data - performance data representing the present reporting period or active monitoring state.
  • history data - performance data kept for past reporting periods.
  • name binding - the mapping that connects a managed object class to a specific SDH sink context.

Who uses SIST EN 301 155 V1.1.1:2003?

SDH equipment vendors, telecom network operators, and TMN management-system developers use this standard when they need a common NE-view model for unidirectional performance monitoring. It is also relevant to integration and validation teams that have to map SDH performance objects between the equipment and the element manager.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 301 155 V1.1.1:2003?

  • ITU-T G.774-01 - provides related SDH performance monitoring for the NE view and is cited for the requirements behind the model.
  • ITU-T G.774-06 - provides the unidirectional performance monitoring model for the NE view and is closely related to this document.
  • ITU-T G.784 - defines SDH management for network elements and frames the management context.
  • ITU-T M.2120 - covers maintenance of transport network fault detection and localisation procedures.
  • ITU-T M.3010 - gives the TMN principles used as the management architecture basis.
  • ITU-T Q.822 - provides the Q3 interface performance management description that this model uses as its generic mechanism.

What does the SIST EN 301 155 V1.1.1:2003 document contain?

The body of the document is a structured managed-object specification. It includes imported object classes, packages and attributes, then a detailed list of name bindings for the SDH current-data objects across multiple TTP and supervised CTP sink contexts.

Annex A is an informative bibliography with related SDH, TMN and management-information-model references. The front matter also includes the ETSI foreword, the reference list, abbreviations, and the publication history.

ETSIEN 301 155 V1.1.1 (1998-05)51ScopeThe present document provides an information model for the unidirectional performance monitoring of SynchronousDigital Hierarchy (SDH) network. This model describes the managed object classes and their properties for theperformance monitoring function, as defined in ITU-T Recommendation G.784 [3] and as related to SDH NetworkElements (NEs). These objects are useful to describe information exchanged across interfaces defined in ITU-TRecommendation M.3010 [5] Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) architecture for the management ofthe performance monitoring function.Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) performance monitoring functions are used to monitor specified performanceevents of specified termination points managed objects and to report these performance data, as well as quality ofservice alarms to its managing system according to a given schedule.ITU-T Recommendation M.2120 [4] defines maintenance of transport network, ITU-T Recommendation G.784 [3]defines the management of SDH based NE. The present document defines the object model based on ITU-TRecommendation Q.822 [6] according to the requirements described in ITU-T Recommendation G.784 [3] and ITU-TRecommendation M.2120 [4]. This model uses generic mechanism defined in ITU-T Recommendation Q.822 [6]. Theinformation model for bidirectional performance monitoring is covered by ITU-T Recommendation G.774-01 [1], theone for unidirectional performance monitoring by ITU-T Recommendation G.774-06 [2]. The present document reusesfunctionality of ITU-T Recommendation G.774-01 [1] and G.774-06 [2] wherever possible. The present document defines:-an information model, as related to the unidirectional performance monitoring function for the SDH.The present document does not define:-the protocol stack to be used for message communication;-the network level management processes;-the application contexts;-the conformance requirements to be met by an implementation of this information model;-information models for other systems or equipment. The information model defined here (and the corresponding message set) is concerned with the management of NEs, theequipment by which they are implemented and the functions contained within them. More precisely, it applies to anequipment domain visible at the element manager to element interface and is only concerned with information availablewithin that domain. Information proper to the domain of a network level management process is not included within thismodel.SIST EN 301 155 V1.1
