oSIST prEN IEC 63758-5-6:2026 is the Slovenian standard for Qi Specification - Version 2.3 - Part 5-6: MPP - Communications physical layer, published by SIST. It defines the low-level physical layer and data link layer used by MPP Power Transmitter (PTx) and Power Receiver (PRx) to exchange data with Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) from PTx to PRx and Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK) from PRx to PTx. The document is aimed at engineers, test teams, and integrators working on MPP wireless charging links and packet handling.

What does oSIST prEN IEC 63758-5-6:2026 specify?

oSIST prEN IEC 63758-5-6:2026 specifies the formats of data bits, data bytes, and data packets for the MPP communications physical layer. It also gives requirements and guidance for load modulation and FSK used in MPP communication.

The document is organized into four main clauses:

  • Clause 1 gives general rules, compliance wording, references, and notation.
  • Clause 2 introduces the communications physical layer and the MPP communication model.
  • Clause 3 covers Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) from PTx to PRx.
  • Clause 4 covers Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK) from PRx to PTx, including modulation, receiver behavior, recommendations, and test conditions.

What are the key requirements of oSIST prEN IEC 63758-5-6:2026?

General rules and notation

Clause 1.3 states that the provisions in the Qi Specification are mandatory unless they are explicitly marked as recommended, optional, a note, an example, or informative. In practice, that means implementers need to treat every “shall” statement as a conformance point.

Clauses 1.5.1 to 1.5.5 set out the notation for numbers, tolerances, packet fields, text strings, and shorthand packet names. These rules matter because transmitter and receiver implementations must encode and decode packet content in the same way, including big-endian numeric fields and ASCII text strings padded with NUL characters where needed.

PTx to PRx communication by FSK

Clause 2.1 says that in MPP mode the PTx communicates to the PRx by modulating inverter frequency, and the PRx can demodulate that information as part of synchronous rectification. In practical terms, the power stage is also the data link, so the design has to support both energy transfer and symbol detection at the same time.

Clause 3 defines the FSK operating model and its timing. The PTx uses the shared bit encoding scheme, transmits with a 128-cycle bit period except when answering a CFG packet, and uses a 512-cycle bit period for CFG responses. It also transmits response patterns, including the MPPACK Pattern, and sends a preamble of 4 ONE bits before every FSK data packet. For implementers, this means packet timing and preamble handling are fixed parts of interoperability.

Clause 3 also specifies receiver behavior for noisy conditions. The PRx FSK receiver is described with filtering, detector, timing control, and packet decoding steps, and the text notes that light-load inverter harmonics can create extra comparator crossings. In practice, FSK receivers need countermeasures such as comparator hysteresis, adaptive reference selection, or blanking times so they can still decode reliably.

PRx to PTx communication by ASK

Clause 4 defines ASK as the PRx changing the power it draws so the PTx sees either magnitude or phase states. The document states that a state must remain constant within a ripple band for at least 100 μs, so implementers need stable modulation behavior rather than brief switching spikes.

Clause 4.2 describes the ASK modulator and receiver models. At 128 kHz, the PRx uses communications capacitors to ground and the switches must turn on with zero-voltage switching and turn off immediately. At 360 kHz, the PRx modulates electronic load current, and the modulation strength can be adjusted by changing MOD_DEPTH and MOD_BASE. That matters because ASK performance depends on load, operating mode, and the ability to tune signal strength during operation.

Clause 4.2.2 describes the PTx ASK receiver chain. The PTx measures the transmitter series capacitor voltage with a differential amplifier, anti-alias filter, and fast ADC, then uses quadrature demodulation, low-pass filtering, decimation, and Magnitude/Phase detector units. The practical point is that the transmitter side also needs a dedicated receive path if it is to decode reverse communication correctly.

Packet integrity, interoperability, and test points

Clause 4.3 requires the same bit and byte encoding schemes, the same header, message, and checksum fields, and adjacent bytes to be transmitted without gaps. The document also marks PRxASKSpec8 as deprecated. For product teams, that means packet structure has to match the wider Qi communication model, not just the local modulation method.

Clauses 4.3.9 and 4.3.10 define ASK performance checks on the Test Power Transmitter (TPT) reference setup. At 128 kHz and 360 kHz, the PRx must meet either an amplitude-based or a phase-based condition together with the specified signal quality condition when placed in the 2x2 mm MPP cylinder on TPT#MPP1. In practice, this is the interoperability gate: the signal must be strong enough and clean enough at a defined test position.

Clause 4.3.11 requires the PTx to receive and decode ASK transmissions from the PRx without causing a disconnect when mated with a TPR. Clause 4.4 then gives recommendations for modulation strength, use of real-power load variation, inverter-rail noise, and the instantaneous DC input power rise during ASK. These points help designers tune robustness and efficiency beyond the minimum conformance behavior.

What terms does oSIST prEN IEC 63758-5-6:2026 define?

  • Power Transmitter (PTx) - the Qi device that sends power and carries FSK and ASK communication functions.
  • Power Receiver (PRx) - the Qi device that receives power and sends information back to the PTx by ASK.
  • Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) - the PTx-to-PRx coding method that uses different power-switching frequencies to represent data.
  • Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK) - the PRx-to-PTx coding method that changes the load so the transmitter sees magnitude or phase changes.
  • Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) - the measure used in the ASK test conditions to judge whether the signal is readable enough.
  • Test Power Transmitter (TPT) - the reference transmitter used for the ASK placement and performance checks.
  • CFG packet - the packet type that triggers the longer FSK bit period used for a specific response case.

Who uses oSIST prEN IEC 63758-5-6:2026?

This standard is used by engineers designing MPP wireless charging transmitters and receivers, especially where communication shares the same power path as energy transfer. Firmware teams use it to implement packet encoding, timing, and decode logic.

It is also used by test and validation teams that measure FSK and ASK performance, check modulation strength, and verify interoperability against the TPT setup. Quality managers and buyers use it to compare transmitter and receiver designs, modules, and chipset behavior against a shared communications method.

Which standards are used with oSIST prEN IEC 63758-5-6:2026?

What does the oSIST prEN IEC 63758-5-6:2026 document contain?

The document includes a general section on compliance and notation, then a communications physical layer introduction, followed by separate FSK and ASK sections. It contains system model descriptions for the PTx and PRx sides, including receiver and modulator architectures.

It also includes tables and figures that support implementation and testing:

  • Table 1 explains verbal forms such as “shall” and “should”.
  • Table 2 shows how packet fields are interpreted.
  • Table 3 gives MOD_BASE selection guidance.
  • Figures 1 to 11 illustrate packet layout, system models, modulation trends, and sample waveforms.

These contents are used for design, coding, test planning, and interoperability checks for MPP wireless power communication.
