EN 1942:2008 - "Self adhesive tapes - Measurement of Thickness" is a European Standard published by CEN that defines a laboratory method to measure the total thickness of self-adhesive tapes (backing plus adhesive). • Procedure:
  • Zero the instrument and clean the pressure foot before each measurement.
  • Place test piece adhesive side up; lower foot gently; record reading 1 s after lowering.
  • Make three measurements on different areas of the piece and average for the thickness value.
  • For double-coated tapes with liner: measure tape+liner, measure liner separately at same positions, subtract liner average from total average.
• Results & reporting:
  • Express thickness as arithmetic mean in µm.
  • Test report must reference EN 1942:2008 and include sample identification, results, any deviations, test date/place and tester signature.
