E36 - Accreditation & Certification
This committee develops and promotes standards for laboratories and agencies engaged in materials testing, inspection, calibration and systems analysis; standards for non-degree granting education and training programs; and standards for credentialing of personnel. The committee's functions concerning these conformity assessment activities are to: a) prepare generic standards. b) prepare specific standards where not otherwise addressed. c) aid and advise other ASTM committees. d) adopt, as appropriate, ISO and other International standards as American National Standards. e) perform such other functions as may advance, improve, standardize, and unify such standards, including liaison with government and other organizations. The standards adopted by this committee are intended to be used by the laboratories, agencies and bodies themselves for quality control purposes, and by governmental bodies and other organizations for quality assurance purposes.
