SCOPE
1.1 This specification establishes the requirements for copper sheet, strip, plate, and rolled bar produced from the following coppers.Note 1
Each of the coppers listed has unique properties that can make it suitable for specific applications. The purchaser should consult with the supplier to determine which copper would be best suited for the intended application.Note 2
This specification is not intended to establish requirements for material rolled to ounce-weight thicknesses. Such material is defined in Specification B 370.
Plates for locomotive fireboxes are defined in Specification B 11.
Flat copper products with finished (rolled or drawn) edges (flat wire and strip) are defined in Specification B 272.
1.1.1 When a specific copper is not identified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier may furnish product from any of the listed coppers.
1.2 The values stated in inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This bend test provides information as to the formability or the ability of copper and copper alloy strip to resist cracking when being formed.  
5.2 This test method can be used as a quality control tool to determine if material will form to a given radius.  
5.3 This test method is also useful in research and development to provide data for use in selecting a spring material that will safely form to the geometry of a given part.  
5.3.1 The forming characteristic of interest is the smallest bend radius that can be formed without cracks or otherwise unacceptable surface conditions (8.4). This radius, R, is the radius of curvature of the nose of the punch used in the test.  
5.3.2 In addition, the difference between the angle of the bend after testing and 90° provides a measure of post-forming springback.  
5.4 The results are suitable for direct application in design and manufacturing, only when all factors such as the geometry of the part, punch and die design, lubrication, stamping speed, and other material properties are known.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers the technique of bend testing copper and copper alloy strip samples to determine product formability or the ability to resist cracking when forming a bend around a specific radius. The criterion for failure is the occurrence of cracks on the convex surface of the bend.  
1.2 This bend test is limited to strip from 0.003 in. to and including 0.031 in. (0.076 mm to and including 0.79 mm) thick.  
1.3 The forming or punch radius for the bend test shall be determined by agreement between the manufacturer or supplier and purchaser. This punch radius is typically equal to or greater than the minimum bend radius without failure for the alloy, temper and thickness combination of the strip being tested.

ABSTRACT
This specification establishes the general requirements common to wrought copper and copper alloy rods, bars, shapes, and forgings. Products shall be manufactured by hot working, cold working, or both, and finished by cold working, annealing, or heat treatment and straightening as identified necessary to meet the properties specified. Materials shall be sampled and prepared, then tested accordingly to examine their conformance to dimensional (mass, diameter, length, straightness, and edge contours), mechanical (tensile strength, Rockwell hardness, elongation, and hydrogen embrittlement), electrical resistivity, chemical composition, and grain size requirements. The products shall also meet performance requirements when subjected to residual stress, mercurous nitrate, ammonia vapor, and semiguided bend tests. In the event of conflict between this specification and the individual casting product specifications, the requirements of the casting specification shall take precedence.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers plate, rolled bar, sheet, and strip of copper-tin alloy (phosphor bronze plate), copper-tin-lead alloy (leaded phosphor bronze), and copper-tin-lead-zinc alloy (bearing bronze). Copper alloys covered include UNS Nos. C51000, C51100, C51180, C51900, C52100, C52180, C52400, C53400, and C54400. Product shall be manufactured by hot or cold working, rolling, and annealing. Chemical composition of the materials shall conform to UNS designation of the material. Product shall conform to chemical analysis, tensile strength and Rockwell hardness tests specified in the specification. Chemical composition testing shall be performed for each element, namely, copper, iron, lead, phosphorus, tin, and zinc. Tension test shall be made so that the longitudinal axis of the specimen is parallel to direction of rolling.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the requirements for copper-tin alloy (phosphor bronze), copper-tin-lead alloy (leaded phosphor bronze), and copper-tin-lead-zinc alloy (bearing bronze), plate, sheet, strip, and rolled bar for general application produced from Copper Alloy UNS Nos. C51000, C51100, C51180, C51900, C52100, C52180, C52400, C53400, and C54400. The phosphor bronzes commonly are used for deep drawing into bellows and stamping and forming into spring devices and into terminals and connectors for electrical apparatus because they combine high strength with high elongation. The leaded phosphor bronzes are used where strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability are required. The bearing bronze is used in bushings, bearings, and load-bearing thrust washers.
Note 1: All of the above alloys contain small amounts of phosphorus, used as a deoxidant in melting, and to enhance the mechanical properties.

In order to promote consistency in the style and content of product specifications under its jurisdiction, Committee B05 recognizes the need to provide a supplementary document pertaining to the types of products and materials covered by specifications under its jurisdiction.  
4.2 This guide contains a list of sections to be considered for inclusion in a specification for copper and copper alloys, recommended wording, or both, for such sections. An electronic template including committee adopted language is included in the Appendix.7  
4.3 Persons drafting new product specifications, or modifying existing ones, under the jurisdiction of Committee B05, should follow this guide and the requirements of the Form and Style Manual to ensure consistency.
SCOPE
1.1 This guide covers the editorial procedures and form and style for product specifications under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee B05 on Copper and Copper Alloys.
Note 1: For standards other than product specifications, such as test methods, practices, and guides, see the appropriate sections of Form and Style for ASTM Standards (Blue Book).2  
1.2 This guide has been prepared as a supplement to the current edition of the Form and Style Manual, and is appropriate for use by the subcommittees within ASTM Committee B05 on Copper and Copper Alloys. This guide is to be applied in conjunction with the Form and Style Manual. The Appendix contains a copy of the B05 electronic template which includes adopted language for various sections and provides a template for drafting B05 product specifications.
Note 2: The contents of this guide were previously maintained as a white paper under the title, “ASTM Committee B05 Outline of Form of Specifications.”  
1.3 Subcommittees preparing new product specifications or revising existing ones should follow the practices and procedures outlined herein, and be guided by the latest specifications covering similar commodities.  
1.4 If a conflict exists between this guide and the mandatory sections of the current edition of the Form and Style Manual, the Form and Style Manual requirements have precedence. If a conflict exists between this guide and the nonmandatory sections of the current edition of the Form and Style Manual, this guide has precedence.  
1.5 When patents are involved, the specifications writer should refer to the Form and Style Manual section on patents and trademarks. Also, refer to part F of the Form and Style Manual for trademark information and the safety hazards caveat.

Standard Specification for Copper Alloy Continuous Castings

ABSTRACT
This specification establishes requirements for continuously cast rod, bar, tube, and shapes produced from copper alloys with nominal compositions. Castings produced to this specification may be manufactured for and supplied from stock. Mechanical tests are required only when specified by the purchaser in the purchase order. Continuous castings shall not be mechanically repaired, plugged, or burned in. Weld repairs may be made at the manufacturer's discretion. For sampling purposes, a lot shall consist of castings of the same composition and same cross-sectional dimensions, produced during the continuous operation of one casting machine, and submitted for inspection at one time unless specified otherwise. The specimen shall be comprised of the following major elements: copper, tin, lead, zinc, iron, aluminum, manganese, and nickel including cobalt. Residual elements may be present in cast copper-base alloys. The fractured bars shall be retained for chemical verification. Both the Brinell hardness reading and Rockwell hardness reading shall be taken on the grip end of the tension test bar. At the request of the purchaser castings shall be marked with the alloy number.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers requirements for continuously cast rod, bar, tube, and shapes produced from copper alloys with nominal compositions as listed in Table 1.2  
1.2 Castings produced to this specification may be manufactured for and supplied from stock. In such cases the manufacturer shall maintain heat traceability to specific manufacturing date and chemical analysis.  
1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the requirements for UNS C95300, C95400, C95410, C95500, C95800, C87500, C87800, C87850, and C89540 copper alloy permanent mold castings for general applications. UNS C95800 copper alloy used in sea water applications should be heat treated for better corrosion resistance. In general, alloys included in this specification are weldable. Mechanical properties like the tensile strength, yield strength and elongation are determined from separately cast test bar castings and should conform to the specified requirements.
