SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers vinyl-coated glass yarns. These yarns are manufactured in two basic classes. These classes have been established that when properly woven into screening, satisfactory strength, durability, and insect protection are obtained. The two classes are as follows:  
1.1.1 Class 1—Nominal thickness 0.292 mm [0.0115 in.].  
1.1.2 Class 2—Nominal thickness 0.330 mm [0.0130 in.].  
1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.  
1.3 The following precautionary statement pertains only to the test method portions, Sections 12–21, of this specification. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Class 1—Nominal thickness 0.292 mm [0.0115 in.].
Class 2—Nominal thickness 0.330 mm [0.0130 in.].
Formerly under the jurisdiction of Committee D13 on Textiles, this specification was withdrawn in January 2023 in accordance with section 10.6.3 of the Regulations Governing ASTM Technical Committees, which requires that standards shall be updated by the end of the eighth year since the last approval date.

SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the requirements for vinyl-coated fiber glass solar screening, and should help users recognize the characteristics of acceptable vinyl-coated fiber glass solar screening. This specification is limited in application to vinyl-coated fiber glass solar screening that is produced with a ribbed pattern woven in the warp direction. The applicability of this specification to vinyl-coated fiber glass type solar screening of a non-rib, a double rib (ribs in both warp and filling direction), or a filling rib construction is not known.  
1.2 This specification shows the definitions, general requirements, and physical requirements for commercial standard vinyl-coated fiber glass solar screening designed and woven for installation in any dwelling, building, or structure for the purpose of providing a significant reduction in solar heat gain, while providing outward view and interior light. Solar screening provides a structure that has insect-restraining capabilities equivalent to standard insect screening.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 Fabrics intended for this end-use should meet all the requirements listed in Table 1. (A) There is more than one standard test method that can be used to measure breaking strength, tongue tear strength, and lightfastness. These test methods cannot be used interchangeably since there may be no overall correlation between them (see Note 2).(B) grade in b and c is based on a numerical scale of 5 for negligible color transfer or color change to 1 for very severe color transfer or color change. The numerical rating in Table 1 or higher is acceptable.(C) AATCC 9–Step Chromatic Transference Scale.(D) AATCC Gray Scale for Color Change.  
4.2 It should be recognized that fabric can be produced utilizing an almost infinite number of combinations of construction variables (e.g., type of fibers, percentage of fibers, yarn twist, yarn number, warp and pick count, chemical and mechanical finished). Additionally, fashion and aesthetics dictate that the ultimate consumer may find acceptable articles made from fabrics that do not conform to all of the requirements in Table 1.  
4.2.1 Hence, no single performance specification can possibly apply to all the various fabrics that could be utilized for this end-use.  
4.3 The uses and significance of particular properties and test methods are discussed in the appropriate sections of the specified methods.
SCOPE
1.1 This performance specification covers performance requirements for vinyl-coated and urethane-coated upholstery fabrics produced with woven, knit, or nonwoven substrates which are used in the manufacture of new indoor furniture.  
1.2 This performance specification is not applicable to fabrics used in porch, deck, or lawn furniture; nor for plain knit fabrics and plain, tufted, or flocked, woven upholstery fabrics.

This specification covers glass fabric impregnated, coated, and sintered on both sides with PTFE to a specified maximum nominal thickness. It does not pertain to structural fabric, single-sided PTFE coatings, or materials used for laminates. The PTFE-coated glass fabric is for electrical, chemical, and mechanical uses. The base material used in the manufacture of the products of this specification shall be a woven glass fabric. The glass fabric is impregnated or coated with polytetrafluoroethylene. When necessary, additives are used to aid the dispersion to achieve the required properties and performance of the final product. The glass fabric shall be tested for color, thickness, breaking strength, edge tear, conductivity, percent PTFE, smoothness, and porosity.
