Covering thermoplastic films for use in agriculture and horticulture

This standard concerns transparent and diffusing plastic films based on polyethylene and its copolymers which are designed to be used as covers for permanent and temporary greenhouses for forcing and semi-forcing vegetable, fruit and flower crops. This standard is intended to establish the basic requirements for the physical and mechanical characteristics of various types of film.

¾ film normal ;
¾ film thermique clair ;
¾ film thermique diffusant.

Page 4EN 13206:20013Terms and definitionsFor the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.3.1widthtotal width of the film when laid flat, given in millimetresNOTEFilms which are wider than 2000 mm are usually folded lenghtwise at least once before ofthe winding on a reel. These folds are retained even when the film is laid out flat, and this mayaffect test results. Therefore, a distinction shall be made between the sample sheets taken fromthe folds ("fold" area) and sample sheets taken from areas which have not been folded ("flat"area).3.2nominal widthwidth declared by the manufacturer in millimeters3.3thicknessgiven in micrometers3.4nominal thicknessthickness declared by the manufacturer in micrometers3.5length of the rollthe largest dimension of the roll in mm3.6longitudinal direction of the roll (MD)direction parallel to the length of the roll corresponding to the extrusion direction3.7transverse direction of the roll (TD)direction parallel to the width (at right angles to the length)4Plastics materialsAgricultural covering film in accordance with the EN standard are usually manufactured from:- low density polyethylene (PE-LD), linear low density polyethylene (PE-LLD) and their blends- ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers (E/VAC) and their blends with PE-LD or PE-LLD- ethylene butyl-acrylate copolymers (E/BA) and their blends with PE-LD or PE-LLD.5Types and ranges of useThe different types of film covered by this standard and their respective ranges of use are shownin Table 1.SIST EN 13206:2002
