Textiles - Tests for colour fastness - Part D02: Colour fastness to rubbing: Organic solvents (ISO 105-D02:2016)
ISO 105-D02:2016 specifies a method for determining the resistance of the colour of textiles of all kinds and in all forms, except loose fibre, to the combined action of rubbing and of organic solvents used in spot-cleaning, localized "spotting" carried out by hand.
Tekstilije - Preskušanje barvne obstojnosti - Del D02: Barvna obstojnost proti drgnjenju: organska topila (ISO 105-D02:2016)
Ta del standarda ISO 105 določa metodo za ugotavljanje odpornosti barve vseh vrst in oblik tekstilij,
razen prostih vlaken, proti drgnjenju in istočasni uporabi organskih topil,
ki se uporabljajo pri točkovnem čiščenju (lokalno »točkovno nanašanje«, ki se izvaja ročno).

Overview
EN ISO 105‑D02:2016 - Textiles - Tests for colour fastness - Part D02: Colour fastness to rubbing: Organic solvents (ISO 105‑D02:2016) specifies a standardized laboratory method to evaluate the resistance of textile colour to the combined action of rubbing and organic solvents used in manual spot‑cleaning. The method applies to textiles in all forms (except loose fibre) and is intended for assessing colour change and staining caused by solvents such as perchloroethylene, white spirit or other petroleum hydrocarbons.
Key topics and requirements
- Test principle: A textile specimen is rubbed with a rubbing cotton cloth impregnated (or exposed) with an organic solvent; colour change of the specimen and staining of the rubbing cloth are rated using grey scales.
- Apparatus: Device with a moving “finger” (diameter 16 mm) travelling along a track of (104 ± 3) mm and applying a downward force of (9 ± 0.2) N. The apparatus may be adapted (hollow tube/grille) as long as equivalent results are obtained (AATCC Test Method 8 referenced).
- Rubbing medium: Rubbing cotton cloth complying with ISO 105‑F09, cut to 50 mm × 50 mm; grating (stainless steel) and a wool flannel contact surface are described for some apparatus variants.
- Solvents: Typical solvents listed include perchloroethylene, white spirit, solvent F or other petroleum hydrocarbons; choice of solvent must be recorded.
- Specimen preparation: Fabric specimens at least 50 mm × 140 mm (warp and weft directions tested separately); yarn specimens to be made into testable layers or knitted into fabric.
- Procedure: Rubbing cloth is wetted with a measured mass of solvent; the cloth is rubbed back and forth for 10 cycles in 10 s (track ≈100 mm per procedure), then dried (≤60 °C) before assessment.
- Assessment and reporting: Colour change and staining are evaluated with the ISO grey scales (ISO 105‑A02 and ISO 105‑A03). Test reports must include standard reference (ISO 105‑D02:2016), sample identification, numerical ratings for change and staining (direction with heavier staining), and solvent used.
Applications and users
- Who uses it: Textile manufacturers, dye houses, quality control laboratories, research institutions, and textile testing services involved in colourfastness and cleaning performance evaluation.
- Practical uses:
- Verify resistance of dyed fabrics to spot‑cleaning solvents used in dry‑cleaning or household spot treatments.
- Support product specifications, supplier quality agreements and compliance testing.
- Compare dyeing/finishing processes, formulations or clearances for apparel, upholstery and technical textiles.
Related standards
