Furniture removal activities - Storage of furniture and personal effects for private individuals - Part 1: Specification for the storage facility and related storage provision

This European Standard specifies minimum requirements for the provision of storage facilities and related services, for furniture and personal effects belonging to private individuals and is applicable to all forms of such storage whatever the means of containment employed. This does not exclude its application to services and facilities provided for the storage of items of furniture in other ownership. Part 2 specifies service activities designed to ensure that such a service is customer oriented.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Mindestanforderungen an die Bereitstellung von Lagerungseinrichtungen und
damit verbundenen Dienstleistungen für die Einlagerung von Möbeln und persönlichen Effekten von
Privatpersonen fest; er gilt für alle Formen der Lagerung, unabhängig davon, welche Behälterarten eingesetzt
werden. Diese Norm findet auch Anwendung auf die Einlagerung von Möbeln, die sich nicht im Eigentum des
Einlagernden befinden. Teil 2 legt die Dienstleistungsaktivitäten fest, mit denen sichergestellt wird, dass eine
derartige Dienstleistung an den Bedürfnissen des Kunden ausgerichtet ist.

EN 14873-1:2005 is a CEN (European) standard that specifies minimum requirements for storage facilities and related services for furniture and personal effects owned by private individuals. “Transport - Logistics and services”, the secretariat of which is held by DS.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by December 2005, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by December 2005.
This document has been prepared by CEN/TC 320/WG 4 "Furniture removals activities" as the first
part of a two part draft European Standard and has been submitted to CEN Technical Committee
CEN/TC 320 “Transport - Logistics and Services" for approval as a draft for CEN Formal Vote.
No existing European Standard will be superseded by the eventual publication of this standard.

Introduction
This European Standard is the first part of a two-part standard, intended to establish a minimum level
of service and performance, in enterprises dealing with the storage of furniture and personal effects,
for private individuals. Together with Part 2 and EN 12522-1 and EN 12522-2 Furniture removal
activities- Furniture removal for private individuals, it forms a suite of European Standards that specify
a minimum standard of services and facilities for the removal and storage of household furniture and
effects for private individuals that should be available on an equal basis, across the European
Community.
Within each activity, it has been necessary to make a distinction between the "service" on the one
hand, and the "provision of the service" on the other:
