Flanges and their joints - Circular flanges for pipes, valves, fittings and accessories, PN designated - Part 1: Steel flanges

This European Standard for a single series of flanges specifies requirements for circular steel flanges in PN designations PN 2,5 to PN 400 and nominal sizes from DN 10 to DN 4000.
This European Standard specifies the flange types and their facings, dimensions, tolerances, threading, bolt sizes, flange jointing face surface finish, marking, materials, pressure/ temperature ratings and approximate flange masses.
For the purpose of this European Standard, "flanges" include also lapped ends and collars.
This European Standard applies to flanges manufactured in accordance with the methods described in Table 1.
Non-gasketed pipe joints are outside the scope of this European Standard.

It specifies standards and additional requirements for dimensions, material properties and technical conditions of delivery for bolting.
NOTE 1   Washers are not within the scope of this document.
The selection is based on commonly used bolting. It covers common temperature ranges of the general service of flanges.
When selecting bolting according to this document it is essential to take into account environmental conditions and other parameters including type of fluids, corrosion hazards, sour service, low temperature brittle failure and relaxation at elevated temperatures.
The purpose of this document is to provide a selection of most commonly used bolting types and bolting material combinations.
It is not the intention to specify all possible applications but to give guidance on the most common applications. For example, application limits for material in the creep range are not explicitly covered in this document. Where material standard provides mechanical properties for the creep range respective reference is made in Table 3.
NOTE 2   Special services and ambient conditions may require the application of coatings. It is the purchaser’s option to decide on this. Depending on the coating used, a verification of the temperature ranges given in Table 3 and Table 4 may be required.
NOTE 3   In Annex B there are bolting types and bolting material combinations according to commonly used national standards other than those listed in Table 2, Table 3 and Table 4.

This document details generic gasket parameters for use in EN 1591-1 during preliminary calculations during which the type of gasket to be used in an application is to be decided. Once the gasket type has been decided the parameters for gaskets of that type from the different potential commercial suppliers should be used in further calculations as within a gasket type there will be differences depending upon the supplier.
WARNING - For the final calculations using the method given in EN 1591-1 the reader is directed to obtain gasket parameters for the selected generic type of gasket from the intended gasket manufacturer. This is because the data for a generic gasket type will vary between manufacturers. This variation can be seen in the tables of data which are embodied in this document.

This European Standard defines a calculation method for bolted, gasketed, circular flange joints. Its purpose is to ensure structural integrity and control of leak tightness. It uses gasket parameters based on definitions and test methods specified in EN 13555.
The calculation method is not applicable to joints with a metallic contact out of the sealing face or to joints whose rigidity varies appreciably across gasket width. For gaskets in incompressible materials, which permit large deformations, the results given by the calculation method can be excessively conservative (i.e. required bolting load too high, allowable pressure of the fluid too low, required flange thickness too large, etc.).

Flanges and their joints - Part 4: Qualification of personnel competency in the assembly of the bolted connections of critical service pressurized systems

This European Standard is applicable to the bolting technicians, and their supervisors, the responsible engineers, who disassemble, assemble and tighten the bolted connections of whatever shape of critical service pressurised systems. A failure of a connection in such a system would endanger personnel, plant or the environment. A route for achieving competency in the skills required to safely and successfully disassemble, assemble and tighten pressurised bolted joints of any shape to a design bolt load using documented work instructions is given in this document. The aim is the establishment of a joint capable of maintaining a leak-free status throughout its’ service life.
This European Standard provides a modular training syllabus and an assessment process that can be used to determine the competency of personnel who disassemble, assemble and tighten bolted connections, whatever their shape, fitted to pressurised equipment containing a medium at any combination of temperature and pressure.
Bolting technicians have to assemble bolted connections of different levels of complexity. For this reason, training matrices dealing with bolted connections of various levels of complexity and for different types of pressurised bolted connections are given in this document. The modular structure created allows a bolting technician, once competency in the foundation level has been achieved, to obtain competency in higher levels as required.
Certification to this European Standard provides an attestation of general competency in accordance with the stated syllabi and assessments.
Certification to this European Standard does not represent an authorisation to operate, since this remains the responsibility of the employer, and the certified person may require additional specialised knowledge of employer-specific procedures, processes and equipment.
