Vitreous and porcelain enamels - Low-voltage test for detecting and locating defects - Part 1: Swab test for non-profiled surfaces (ISO 8289-1:2020)

This document specifies two low voltage tests for detecting and locating defects that extend to the basis metal in vitreous and porcelain enamel coatings.
Method A (electrical) is applicable to the rapid detection and determination of the general location of defects. Method B (optical), based on colour effects, is applicable to the more precise detection of defects and their exact locations. Both methods are commonly applied to flat surfaces. For more intricate shapes, such as undulated and/or corrugated surfaces, ISO 8289-2 is applicable.
NOTE 1  Selection of the correct test method is critical to distinguish the areas of increased conductivity detected by method B from actual pores that extend to the basis metal, which can be detected by both methods.
NOTE 2  The low voltage test is a non-destructive method of detecting defects and, therefore, is completely different from the high voltage test specified in ISO 2746. The results of the high and low voltage tests are not comparable and will differ.

Emails und Emaillierungen - Niedrigspannungsprüfung zum Nachweis und Lokalisieren von Fehlstellen - Teil 1: Prüfung von nicht-profilierten Oberflächen (ISO 8289-1:2020)

Dieses Dokument legt zwei Niedrigspannungsprüfungen zum Nachweisen und Lokalisieren von bis zum Grundmetall durchgehenden Fehlstellen in Email-Überzügen fest.
Verfahren A (elektronisches Verfahren) ist anwendbar für den raschen Nachweis und die Grobbestimmung der Lage der Fehlstellen. Verfahren B (optisches Verfahren), das auf Farbeffekten beruht, ist geeignet für den präziseren Nachweis von Fehlstellen und ihrer exakten Lage. Beide Verfahren werden üblicherweise auf ebenen Oberflächen angewendet. Bei komplizierteren Formen, wie beispielsweise gewellten und/oder geriffelten Oberflächen, gilt ISO 8289 2.
ANMERKUNG 1   Die Auswahl des richtigen Prüfverfahrens ist entscheidend, um die Bereiche erhöhter Leitfähigkeit, die mit dem Verfahren B nachgewiesen werden, von tatsächlichen Poren, die bis zum Grundmetall durchgehen und mit beiden Verfahren nachgewiesen werden können, zu unterscheiden.
ANMERKUNG 2   Die Niedrigspannungsprüfung ist ein zerstörungsfreies Verfahren für den Nachweis von Fehlstellen und unterscheidet sich daher von der Hochspannungsprüfung nach ISO 2746. Die Ergebnisse der Hoch- und der Niedrigspannungsprüfung sind nicht vergleichbar und weichen voneinander ab.

Le présent document spécifie deux essais à basse tension permettant de détecter et de localiser les défauts s'étendant jusqu'au métal de base sur les revêtements en émail vitrifié.
La méthode A (électrique) s'applique à la détection rapide et la détermination de la localisation globale des défauts. La méthode B (optique), basée sur des effets de couleur, s'applique à la détection plus sensible des défauts et à leur localisation exacte. Les deux méthodes sont généralement appliquées aux surfaces planes. Pour des formes plus complexes telles que les surfaces ondulées et/ou présentant des sinuosités, l'ISO 8289-2 s'applique.
NOTE 1    Le choix de la méthode d'essai appropriée est essentiel pour distinguer les zones de conductivité accrue détectées par la méthode B, des pores effectifs qui s'étendent jusqu'au métal de base, lesquels peuvent être détectés par les deux méthodes.
NOTE 2    L'essai à basse tension est une méthode d'essai non destructif permettant la détection des défauts et n'a donc rien à voir avec l'essai à haute tension spécifié dans l'ISO 2746. Il n'est par conséquent pas possible de comparer les résultats des essais des deux méthodes.

and other inorganic coatings" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 262 “Metallic and
other inorganic coatings, including for corrosion protection and corrosion testing of metals and alloys”
