Tests for chemical properties of aggregates - Part 6: Determination of the influence of recycled aggregate extract on the initial setting time of cement

This European Standard specifies the procedure for the determination of the influence of water-soluble components from recycled aggregates on the initial setting time of cement.
NOTE   A procedure is described in EN 1744-1:1998, clause 15.3, for use with natural aggregates; this procedure is intended to demonstrate and quantify the effects of organic contaminators. It is not suitable for recycled aggregates because these may also contain inorganic contaminators.

Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Einflusses wasserlöslicher Bestandteile aus
rezyklierten Gesteinskörnungen auf den Erstarrungsbeginn des Zements fest.
ANMERKUNG Ein Verfahren für natürliche Gesteinskörnungen wird in EN 1744-1:1998, 15.3, beschrieben. Dieses
Verfahren dient dazu, die Wirkungen organischer Verunreinigungen darzustellen und zu quantifizieren. Für rezyklierte
Gesteinskörnungen ist dieses Verfahren ungeeignet, da auch anorganische Verunreinigungen vorhanden sein können.

Essais relatifs aux propriétés chimiques des granulats - Partie 6: Détermination de l'influence d'un extrait de granulat recyclé sur le temps de prise initial du ciment

La présente Norme Européenne spécifie un mode opératoire qui permet de déterminer l’influence des constituants solubles dans l’eau contenus dans les granulats recyclés, sur le temps de prise initial du ciment.
NOTE   Un mode opératoire destiné à être utilisé avec les granulats naturels est décrit dans l’EN 1744-1:1998, paragraphe 15.3 ; il vise à démontrer et à quantifier les effets des polluants organiques. Il ne convient pas aux granulats recyclés car il se peut que ceux-ci contiennent également des polluants inorganiques.

EN 1744-6:2006 - Tests for chemical properties of aggregates, Part 6 - specifies a laboratory procedure to determine how water‑soluble components from recycled aggregates affect the initial setting time of cement. The method compares setting times of cement mixed with demineralised water and with an extract produced from a representative test portion of recycled aggregate to quantify accelerating or retarding effects.

• Consistency and setting time: Determine standard consistency with EN 196‑3 using demineralised water. Prepare two cement pastes - one with water, one with the aggregate extract - and measure initial setting times per EN 196‑3.
• Result expression: Compute influence A = tw − te (minutes), where tw = initial setting time with water and te = initial setting time with extract. Negative A = retardation; positive A = acceleration.
• Reporting: Include reference to EN 1744‑6, sample source and designation, mass tested, test result and date.
