This Technical Specification specifies a test method to evaluate the ability of coating materials to seal the end grain of wood against ingress of water.
This procedure is relevant for joinery or wood based cladding materials whose service life can depend on the control of water penetration through the coated end-grain.

Diese Technische Spezifikation legt ein Prüfverfahren zum Beurteilen der Leistungsfähigkeit von Beschich¬tungsstoffen zur Versiegelung von Hirnholz gegen das Eindringen von Wasser fest.
Das Verfahren ist für Holzverbindungen oder Holzverkleidungen von Bedeutung, deren Haltbarkeit (Lebensdauer) von der Regulierung der Wasseraufnahme über das beschichtete Hirnholz abhängen kann.

La présente Spécification technique spécifie une méthode d'essai pour évaluer la capacité des produits de peinture à colmater les bois de bout contre l'entrée d'eau.
Ce mode opératoire est pertinent pour les matériaux de menuiserie ou de bardage à base de bois dont la durée de vie peut dépendre de la maîtrise de la pénétration d'eau dans les bois de bout revêtus.

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 12 June 2016 for provisional application.

The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to

submit their comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.

CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS

available promptly at national level in an appropriate form. It is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in

parallel to the CEN/TS) until the final decision about the possible conversion of the CEN/TS into an EN is reached.
