Professional indoor UV exposure services - Part 3: Requirements for the provision of services

This European Standard defines the requirements for and assessment of the service provision of indoor UV exposure facilities, and will contribute to further strengthen consumer protection and safety with regard to professionally offered indoor tanning services.
This European Standard is not applicable for any medical use of indoor UV exposure.
Requirements for UV appliances for skin exposure are excluded in this standard, as they fall under the scope of EN 60335-2-27.

Diese Europäische Norm legt die Anforderungen an und die Bewertung der Dienstleistungen von Sonnenstudios fest und wird dazu beitragen, dass der Schutz der Nutzer und die Sicherheit bezüglich gewerblich angebotener Bräunungsgeräte weiter verstärkt wird.
Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für jegliche medizinische Anwendungen von UV-Bestrahlungen.
Anforderungen an UV-Hautbestrahlungsgeräte sind nicht in dieser Europäischen Norm enthalten, da sie in den Anwendungsbereich der EN 60335-2-27 fallen.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les exigences relatives à la prestation de services réalisée par les centres de bronzage ainsi que l'évaluation de cette prestation, et contribue à renforcer la protection et la sécurité du consommateur dans le domaine des cabines de bronzage exploitées par des professionnels.
Les exigences relatives aux appareils d'exposition de la peau aux rayonnements ultraviolets ne figurent pas dans la présente Norme européenne car elles relèvent de l'EN 60335-2-27.

Ta evropski standard določa zahteve za pripravo storitev v solarijih in njihovo ocenjevanje ter bo prispeval k nadaljnji krepitvi zaščite in varnosti potrošnikov v zvezi s strokovno zagotovljenimi storitvami v solarijih.
Ta evropski standard se ne uporablja za nobeno medicinsko rabo solarijev.
Zahteve za naprave za izpostavljanje kože ultravijoličnemu sevanju niso vključene v ta standard, ker jih obravnava standard EN 60335-2-27.

Overview

EN 16489-3:2014 is the CEN standard that defines requirements for the provision of professional indoor UV exposure services. It focuses on how indoor tanning facilities deliver services to consumers, strengthening consumer protection, safety, hygiene and information. The standard is explicitly not applicable to medical uses of UV exposure and does not replace appliance safety requirements covered by EN 60335-2-27.

This part (Part 3) complements EN 16489-1 (training) and EN 16489-2 (consultant competence) to provide a coherent framework for safe and consumer-focused indoor tanning services across CEN member states.

Foreword This document (EN 16489-3:2014) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 412 “Project committee - Indoor sun exposure services”, the secretariat of which is held by ASI. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2015, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by June 2015. Introduction Over the years, the quality and safety of indoor tanning appliances - without which a tanning centre cannot operate – has improved substantially. This is especially the case since the publication of EN 60335-2-27:2010, which limits the erythemal irradiation to 0,3 W/m². This is based on the conclusions of a “Scientific Committee on Consumer Products” report of the European Commission on the “Biological effects of ultraviolet radiation relevant to health with particular reference to sunbeds for cosmetic purposes”, published in 2006 [1]. On the other hand, the safe use of commercially offered indoor tanning appliances is critically dependent on the way the service is provided.
