Overview

EN 12467:2012+A1:2016/prA2 is a European Standard developed by CEN that specifies the product requirements and test methods for fibre-cement flat sheets, including siding shingles and planks. These sheets are primarily intended for use as internal and external wall and ceiling finishes. This standard covers fibre-cement sheets reinforced with different types of fibres and defines detailed manufacturing and testing protocols to ensure product quality and durability.

This standard supports building professionals, manufacturers, and regulators by providing harmonized technical criteria for assessing fibre-cement flat sheets in construction applications, ensuring compliance with relevant EU regulations such as Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011.

Key Topics

  • Product Scope and Usage

    • Covers fibre-cement flat sheets for internal and external wall and ceiling finishes.
    • Applies to products including siding shingles and planks but excludes sheets intended for fire protection purposes.
    • Supports other uses under compliance with relevant application standards such as rigid underlays.
  • Composition and Materials

    • Cement used must comply with EN 197-1 or authorized equivalent technical specifications.
    • Sheets reinforced with various fibre types aimed to enhance mechanical performance.
  • Manufacturing Process and Quality Control

    • Terminology standardized to "manufacturing process" throughout the document.
    • Includes factory production control (FPC) requirements with continuous surveillance and assessment of any changes in production.
  • Testing Methods

    • Specifies test methods for mechanical resistance, water impermeability, durability under various conditions including warm water, soak/dry cycles, freeze-thaw, and heat-rain exposure.
    • Mechanical tests are typically performed with the sheet's upper face under compression but mention considerations for testing the under face for design purposes.
  • Compliance and Certification

    • Harmonized with EU Construction Products Regulation (EU CPR) No. 305/2011 for Declaration of Performance (DoP) and CE marking.
    • Defined systems of Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance (AVCP), including systems 1, 3, and 4 depending on product reaction to fire classification.
  • Regulatory Relationship

    • Annex ZA details the correlation between EN 12467 components and EU regulations, facilitating manufacturers' and authorities' use of the standard in legal compliance and product certification.

Applications

  • Internal Wall and Ceiling Finishes
Fibre-cement flat sheets provide robust, durable, and chemical-resistant finishes suitable for internal environments needing fire resistance levels and durability under normal wear conditions.

  • External Wall and Ceiling Cladding
Suitable for façades and external cladding requiring weather resistance, mechanical strength, and compliance with durability standards for freeze-thaw cycles, heat, and rain exposure.

  • Building Construction and Renovation
Used in new builds or refurbishment of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings where standardized quality and performance of fibre-cement cladding materials are critical.

  • Substrates and Underlays
While primarily intended for finishes, products conforming to this standard may also be integrated as rigid underlays in roofing and cladding systems.

Related Standards

  • EN 197-1: Specifies the requirements for cement composition, relevant for the cement used in fibre-cement sheets.
  • Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011: Construction Products Regulation guiding CE marking and Declaration of Performance related to construction materials.
  • CEN/TC 128 Standards: Other standards covering roof covering products for discontinuous laying and wall cladding, complementing EN 12467.
  • National Standards: This European Standard is adopted and maintained by national standard bodies across Europe, ensuring regional applicability and compliance.

Keywords: EN 12467, fibre-cement flat sheets, product specification, test methods, internal wall finishes, external cladding, manufacturing process, mechanical resistance, durability testing, CE marking, EU Construction Products Regulation, fibre reinforcement, building materials standard, architectural cladding.
