Bitumen and bituminous binders - Measurement of density and specific gravity - Capillary-stoppered pyknometer method
This European standard specifies a procedure for determining the specific gravity and density of bituminous binders at (25,0 ± 0,2) °C using the capillary-stoppered pyknometer method. Emulsions are excluded from the scope of this method.
NOTE 1 This method can also be used for other hydrocarbon binders, for bituminous binders from other sources, e.g. recovered from asphalt or after hardening and for bituminous binders containing filler. However, a lower precision is to be expected.
NOTE 2 This test method may be performed at other temperatures (i.e. 15 °C). When doing so, the density values of water and isopropanol should be determined.
The pyknometer method shall be used as a reference method for determining the specific gravity and density of bituminous binders.

La présente Norme européenne prescrit une procédure pour déterminer la densité et la masse volumique des liants bitumineux à (25,0 0,2) °C suivant la méthode du pycnomètre à bouchon capillaire. Les émulsions sont exclues du domaine d’application de cette méthode.
NOTE 1 Cette méthode peut aussi être utilisée pour d’autres liants hydrocarbonés, pour des liants bitumineux d’autres provenances, par exemple ceux obtenus à partir d’enrobés ou après durcissement, et pour des liants contenant des fines. Cependant, une précision plus faible est obtenue avec ces constituants.
NOTE 2 La présente méthode d’essai peut être effectuée à d’autres températures (par exemple 15 °C). Dans ce cas, il convient de rechercher les valeurs des masses volumiques de l’eau et de l’isopropanol dans ces conditions.
La méthode du pycnomètre doit être utilisée comme méthode de référence pour la détermination de la densité et de la masse volumique des liants bitumineux.
