Rubber hoses and hose assemblies for asphalt and bitumen - Specification

This European standard specifies requirements for two types of hose and hose assembly identified by their maximum working pressures and main use i.e. Type 1 is for road and rail tanker use and Type 2 is for dockside use. The types can be further divided into two classes related to the maximum temperature of the product to be conveyed. The hose constructions may be smooth or rough bore.
NOTE   These types of hose or hose assemblies may not necessarily be suitable for all types of petroleum based products or coal tar, or products containing coal tar.

Foreword
This European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN /TC 218, "Rubber and plastics hoses
and hose assemblies", the secretariat of which is held by BSI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or
by endorsement, at the latest by March 2002, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by
March 2002.
This standard is one in a series of specifications for hose and hose assemblies for conveying petroleum based and
associated products. It covers types of hose and hose assemblies for conveying asphalt and bitumin, which are
hazardous materials at temperatures where they can flow readily.
The annexes A, B and C are normative. Annex D is informative.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland,
France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
1 Scope
This European standard specifies requirements for two types of hose and hose assembly identified by their
maximum working pressures and main use i.e. Type 1 is for road and rail tanker use and Type 2 is for dockside
use. The types can be further divided into two classes related to the maximum temperature of the product to be
conveyed. The hose constructions may be smooth or rough bore.
NOTE These types of hose or hose assemblies may not necessarily be suitable for all types of petroleum based products
or coal tar, or products containing coal tar.
2 Normative references
This European Standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. These
normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the test and the publications are listed hereafter. For
dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this European
Standard only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the latest edition of the
publication referred to applies (including amendments).

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the terms and definitions given in ISO 8330 apply.
4 Classification
Hoses shall be one of the following types:
1)
Type 1 Maximum working pressure 7 bar for road and rail tanker hose and hose assemblies;
Type 2 Maximum working pressure 15 bar for dockside hose and hose assemblies.
Each type shall be available in smooth bore (SB) or rough bore (RB) construction and these additional letters shall
be part of the identification.
Each type shall be classed according to the following maximum temperature of operation:
Class A - Up to 175 °C,
Class B - Up to 200 °C.
NOTE These temperatures are the temperature of the product being conveyed inside the hose assembly.
5 Construction and materials
5.1 Type 1 and Type 2 hoses — rubber smooth bore (SB)
These hoses shall have the following construction: a synthetic rubber lining of minimum thickness of 2,0 mm
reinforcing plies of textile or steel wire, a steel wire h
