Overview

prEN 2287:2026 is a draft European Standard developed by CEN for the aerospace series, specifically focusing on plain bushes in corrosion resisting steel with a self-lubricating liner. This standard details the essential characteristics, dimensions, permissible loads, and requirements for these aerospace components. The bushes are designed for use with interference fit in various aerospace assemblies and are intended to operate in temperature environments ranging from −55°C to 163°C. Implementing prEN 2287 ensures consistent quality, reliability, and safety in aerospace applications where corrosion resistance and low maintenance are critical.

Key Topics

  • Component Description
    • Plain bushes constructed from corrosion-resistant steel
    • Utilization of self-lubricating liners for extended service life and reduced maintenance
  • Material Specifications
    • Bushes use specified stainless steels as per EN 3161, EN 3490, or equivalent
    • Liners must meet the criteria set in EN 2311 for wear resistance and lubrication
  • Surface Treatment
    • Options for passivation are specified to improve corrosion resistance according to AMS 2700
  • Dimensions and Tolerances
    • Detailed dimensional tables for bush sizes, tolerances, and associated mass
  • Load Ratings
    • Standardized static and dynamic radial load values supplied for various bush sizes
  • Installation and Design Recommendations
    • Bushes suitable for assembly with an interference fit
    • Recommendations for shaft hardness, diameter, and fit to ensure optimal performance
  • Marking and Identification
    • Requirements for marking each bush and packaging for traceability, aligned with EN 2424
  • Quality Assurance
    • Manufacturers must operate under a recognized aerospace quality management system such as EN 9100

Applications

Aerospace plain bushes with corrosion-resistant steel and self-lubricating liner per prEN 2287 are crucial in aerospace component assemblies where reliability under harsh or variable environmental conditions is mandatory. Their primary applications include:

  • Flight controls and moving assemblies, where minimized friction and resistance to corrosion are vital
  • Landing gear systems and mechanisms exposed to high loads and cyclic stresses
  • Rotating or oscillating joints requiring long-term durability with minimal maintenance
  • Structural assemblies in aircraft, satellites, and other aerospace vehicles
  • Defense and space industry equipment demanding high performance under wide temperature ranges

By standardizing dimensions, permissible loads, and quality control requirements, prEN 2287 promotes interchangeability across manufacturers and applications, simplifies maintenance, and improves lifecycle reliability.

Related Standards

  • EN 2311: Aerospace series - Bushes with self-lubricating liner - Technical specification
  • EN 2424: Aerospace series - Marking of aerospace products
  • EN 3161: Stainless steel bar specifications for aerospace
  • EN 3490: Hardened and tempered corrosion-resistant steel bars for machining
  • AMS 2700: Passivation of corrosion-resistant steels
  • EN 9100: Quality Management Systems - Requirements for aviation, space, and defense organizations
  • TR 4661: Aerospace materials and surface treatments guidance

These standards, when combined with prEN 2287, establish a comprehensive and consistent framework for aerospace bushes, ensuring compatibility, performance, and safety throughout the industry. Adhering to these standards supports robust supply chains and efficient, high-quality aerospace manufacturing.
