This part of IEC 60966 is a detail specification that relates to semi-flexible cable assemblies composed of type 50-141 semi-flexible coaxial cables with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) dielectric (IEC 61196-8-4) and connectors such as type 7-16 (IEC 61169-4), type 4,1-9,5 (IEC 61169-11), type S7-16 (IEC 61169-53) ,type 4,3-10 (IEC 61169-54). It gives subfamily detail requirements and severities which shall be applied. These cable assemblies are mainly used in the field of mobile communication base station antenna system, terrestrial microwave communication and radar systems. The operating frequency is up to 6000 MHz. The qualification will be conducted in accordance with IEC 60966-3. Once one variant obtain qualification approval, the other variant with same cable and connection type can obtain qualification approval by conducting tests whose results might depend on the variants. Under capability approval, the qualification will be conducted on the relating CQCs (capability qualifying components) as defined in IEC 60966-3 and described in the CM(capability manual). Unless otherwise specified in the CM, only lot-by-lot tests from groups Ba and Eb will be conducted on delivered products, all other tests will be performed on CQCs as defined in IEC 60966-3 and described in the CM.

This standard describes the measurement of screening attenuation by the reverberation chamber measurement method, also called mode stirred chamber method. This standard is applicable to screening attenuation measurements of cable assemblies, cables, connectors, and passive microwave components, such as waveguides, phase shifters, diplexers/multiplexers, power dividers/combiners and etc. Modern electronic equipments have shown a demand for methods for testing screening attenuation performance of microwave components over their whole frequency range. Convenient measurement methods have existed for lower frequencies and components of regular shape. These measurement methods are described in IEC 62153 series standards. For much higher frequencies and for components of irregular shape, the reverberation chamber method should be used. Theoretically, the reverberation chamber method has no upper limit of the measurement frequency, but it is limited by the quality and sensitivity of the measurement system, and the lower limit of the measurement frequency is restricted by the size of the reverberation chamber.

This part of IEC 62037 defines a procedure to measure levels of passive intermodulation generated by a coaxial cable assembly. This test method is applicable to jumper cables, i.e. cable assemblies intended to provide interface flexibility between rigid devices. It is also used to evaluate cable assemblies that are subjected to motion in operation.

This part of IEC 62153 specifies a method to extrapolate the test results of transfer impedance to higher frequencies and the test results of screening attenuation to lower frequencies when measured with the triaxial set-up in accordance with IEC 62153-4-3, IEC 62153‑4‑4 [1]1 and IEC 62153-4-15. This method is applicable for homogenous screens, i.e. screens having a transfer impedance directly proportional to length. The transfer impedance can have any frequency behaviour, i.e. it could have a behaviour where it does not increase with 20 dB per decade as observed for screens made of a foil and a braid.

The absorbing clamp method is suitable to determine the screening- or the coupling attenuation of metallic communication cables in the frequency range of 30 MHz to 2400 MHz, depending on the performance of the clamp. It is an alternative method to the the triaxial method of IEC 62153-4-4 or IEC 62153-4-9. Due to the undefined outer circuit of this absorbing clamp method, the test results obtained at different places and laboratories could vary by at least ± 6dB.

IEC 62153-4-15:2021 is available as IEC 62153-4-15:2021 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 62153-4-15:2021 specifies the procedures for measuring with triaxial cell the transfer impedance, screening attenuation or the coupling attenuation of connectors, cable assemblies and components, for example accessories for analogue and digital transmission systems, and equipment for communication networks and cabling. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2015.This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) measurement of coupling attenuation of balanced connectors, assemblies and components with balun and balunless added; b) application of a test adapter was added; c) application of a moveable shorting plane; d) application of the triaxial "absorber" cell; e) correction of test results in the case that the receiver input impedance R is higher than the characteristic impedance of the outer circuit Z2.

This part of IEC 62153 deals with the triaxial tube in tube method. This triaxial method is suitable to determine the surface transfer impedance and/or screening attenuation and coupling attenuation of mated screened connectors (including the connection between cable and connector) and cable assemblies. This method could also be extended to determine the transfer impedance, coupling or screening attenuation of balanced or multipin connectors and multicore cable assemblies. For the measurement of transfer impedance and screening- or coupling attenuation, only one test set-up is needed.

This document gives specific requirements for halogen free polyolefin based sheathing compounds used for halogen free communication cables with improved characteristics in the case of fire. Compounds, described by this document, are commonly also named HFFR or HFFR-LS (halogen free, flame/fire retardant, low smoke), see also EN 50290 2 20. It is expected to be read in conjunction with EN 50290 2 20, the product standards EN 50288 series, EN 60794 series and other applicable product standards. Improved characteristics in the case of fire are demonstrated by specific fire tests on cables for flame/fire retardant applications (e.g. single or bunched cable fire test). Additional tests to prove the characteristics in case of fire, e.g. such as smoke emission test, might also be part of the dedicated product standard or specification. This document describes the compound types as given in Table 1.
