FprEN IEC 62841-4-9:2025/FprAA:2026 is a CENELEC European draft amendment for battery-powered chain saws for tree service. It modifies the safety requirements in Part 4-9 of the IEC 62841 series, mainly on marking and instructions, noise emission information, battery-tool warnings, and the link to Directive 2006/42/EC. What are the key requirements of FprEN IEC 62841-4-9:2025/FprAA:2026?

FprEN IEC 62841-4-9:2025/FprAA:2026 is built on EN ISO 12100 and on the general requirements in EN 62841-1:2015. In practice, that means the Part 4-9 text only changes the Part 1 clauses where the amendment says so.

Marking and warnings

Clause 2 adds EN ISO 7010:2020 as a normative reference. That brings in safety sign W001, which the document uses for the tree-service warnings.

Clause 8 replaces the emissions marking and instructions text. FprEN IEC 62841-4-9:2025/FprAA:2026 requires the declared LpA and its uncertainty K when the A-weighted emission sound pressure level exceeds 70 dB(A), or a statement that the value does not exceed 70 dB(A) when that is the case. It also requires the A-weighted guaranteed sound power level LWA.

The Clause 8 text also calls for a recommendation to wear hearing protection, plus statements that the declared noise values were measured using a standard test method and can be used to compare machines and to make a preliminary assessment of exposure. In practice, the instruction manual must help the user interpret the declared figures correctly, not just list them.

Noise and vibration measurement

Annex I is made normative and covers measurement of noise and vibration emissions. That matters because the declared noise values in Clause 8 depend on a defined measurement method rather than on ad hoc testing.

Battery-tool warning text

Annex K adds a mandatory warning that the chain saw is for trained tree service operators only. The warning has to appear on the machine, on a hangtag or label, and on the packaging carton, with specified wording, colour contrast and minimum letter heights. Compliance is checked by inspection and measurement.

EU Machinery Directive link

Annex ZZ maps the clauses of the document to essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC. For manufacturers, that table shows where this standard supports EU machinery conformity claims.

What changed in FprEN IEC 62841-4-9:2025/FprAA:2026 from the previous edition?

FprEN IEC 62841-4-9:2025/FprAA:2026 modifies prEN IEC 62841-4-9:2023. The stated changes are:

• add EN ISO 7010:2020 to Clause 2;
• replace Clause 8 with new emissions marking and instruction text;
• retitle Annex I as a normative annex for measurement of noise and vibration emissions and delete its note;
• strengthen Annex K warning and packaging text for trained tree service operators;
• add Annex ZA on European publications corresponding to international references;
