1.1 Product definition This specification contains the initial, start of life dimensional, optical, mechanical and environmental performance requirements which a terminated and assembled multimode V groove alignment SG connector set (plug/socket) must meet in order for it to be categorised as an EN standard product. Product marking details are given in 3.5. 1.2 Intermateability Products conforming to the requirements of this specification will intermate and give the specified level of random attenuation and random return loss performance provided the same fibre core size is used. The intention is that this will be true irrespective of the manufacturing source(s) of the product. 1.3 Operating environment The tests selected combined with the severities and durations are representative of an indoor environment typically, but not limited to, that found in generic cabling on commercial premises as defined in EN 50173 and ISO/IEC 11801 and specified as IEC category C. 1.4 Reliability Whilst the anticipated service life expectancy of the product in this environment is 20 years, compliance with this specification does not guarantee the reliability of the product. This should be predicted using a recognised reliability assessment programme. 1.5 Quality assurance Compliance with this specification does not guarantee the manufacturing consistency of the product. This should be maintained using a recognised quality assurance programme.

1.1 Définition du produit Cette spécification contient les exigences de performances initiales, dimensionnelles de début de vie, optiques, mécaniques et environnementales auxquelles un jeu de connecteurs (fiche/prise femelle) de type SG à alignement par une rainure en V multimodaux équipés et assemblés doit satisfaire afin d'être classé comme produit inclus dans une norme EN de produit. Les précisions concernant le marquage des produits sont données en 3.5. 1.2 Compatibilité d'accouplement Les produits conformes aux exigences de cette spécification s'accouplent entre eux et présentent le niveau spécifié de performance d'affaiblissement aléatoire et d’affaiblissement de réflexion aléatoire à condition que la même taille de cœur de fibre soit utilisée. Le but est que cela se vérifie indépendamment de la (des) source(s) de fabrication du produit. 1.3 Environnement de fonctionnement Les essais sélectionnés combinés avec leurs sévérités et leurs durées sont représentatifs d'un environnement intérieur, généralement celui que l'on trouve dans le câblage générique des locaux commerciaux, mais sans s'y limiter, comme défini dans la EN 50173 et dans l’ISO/CEI 11801 et qui est spécifié comme catégorie C de la CEI. 1.4 Fiabilité Tandis que l'espérance de vie du produit en service prévue dans cet environnement est de 20 ans, la conformité avec cette spécification ne garantit pas la fiabilité du produit. Il convient que celle-ci soit estimée en utilisant un programme reconnu d'évaluation de la fiabilité. 1.5 Assurance de la qualité La conformité avec cette spécification ne garantit pas la cohérence de fabrication du produit. Il convient qu’elle soit maintenue en utilisant un programme reconnu d'assurance qualité.

Foreword
This European Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee CENELEC TC 86BXA, Fibre optic
interconnect, passive and connectorised components.
The text of the draft was submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure and was approved by
CENELEC as EN 50377-3-1 on 2007-12-01.
This European Standard supersedes EN 50377-3-1:2001.
This document is updated to include the performance of the adaptor, and patch cord next to the pigtailed
connector as defined in the previous version. It also includes latest attenuation and return loss grades as
specified in IEC.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2008-12-01
