Fire hazard testing - Part 8-1: Heat release - General guidance

IEC 60695-8-1 provides guidance on the measurement and interpretation of heat release from electrotechnical products and materials from which they are constructed. Heat release data can be used as part of fire hazard assessment and in fire safety engineering, as described in the future IEC 60695-1-10 and the future IEC 60695-1-11. This basic safety publication is intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. Major changes with respect to the first edition are as follows: - editorial changes throughout, - revised terms and definitions, - new text concerning bomb calorimetry, - revised Table 1a, - new clause 5-Parameters used to report heat release data and introduction of intermediate scale fire test.

La CEI 60695-8-1 fournit les lignes directrices sur la mesure et l'interprétation du dégagement de chaleur des produits électrotechniques et des matériaux à partir desquels ils sont fabriqués. Il est possible d'utiliser les résultats de dégagement de chaleur pour évaluer les risques dus au feu et pour la mise au point technique de la sécurité vis-à-vis du feu, comme décrit dans la future CEI 60695-1-10 et dans la CEI 60695-1-11. Cette publication fondamentale de sécurité est destinée à être utilisée par les comités d'études pour l'établissement de leurs normes conformément aux principes exposés dans le Guide 104 de la CEI et dans le Guide ISO/CEI 51. Les principales modifications par rapport à l'édition antérieure sont indiquées ci-dessous: - modifications rédactionnelles dans toute la publication; - termes et définitions révisés; - nouveau texte sur la bombe calorimétrique; - Tableau 1a révisé; - nouvel Article 5- Paramètres utilisés pour indiquer les résultats de dégagement de chaleur et introduction de l'essai au feu à échelle intermédiaire.

Standard IEC 60695-8-1 zagotavlja smernice za merjenje in interpretacijo oddajanja toplote iz elektrotehničnih izdelkov in materialov, iz katerih so ti izdelki izdelani. Podatki o oddani toploti se lahko uporabljajo za oceno nevarnosti požara in v inženiringu požarne varnosti, kot bo opisano v prihodnjem standardu IEC 60695-1-10 in IEC 60695-1-11. Ta osnovna varnostna publikacija je namenjena tehničnim odborom za pripravo standardov v skladu z načeli vodil IEC 104 in ISO/IEC 51. Glavne spremembe glede na prvo različico so naslednje:  – uredniške spremembe v celotnem besedilu, – revidirani pogoji in definicije, – novo besedilo, ki zadeva merjenje z bombnim kalorimetrom, – revidirana preglednica 1a, – nova točka 5 – Parametri, ki se uporabljajo za poročanje podatkov o oddani toploti, in uvedba lestvice požarnih preskusov.

It includes special observations on their relevance to real fire scenarios and gives recommendations on their use. It advises which tests provide toxic potency data that are relevant to real fire scenarios, and which are suitable for use in fire hazard assessment and fire safety engineering. The list of test methods is not to be considered exhaustive. This summary cannot be used in place of published standards which are the only valid reference documents. This basic safety publication is intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. One of the responsibilities of a technical committee is, wherever applicable, to make use of basic safety publications in the preparation of its publications. The requirements, test methods or test conditions of this basic safety publication will not apply unless specifically referred to or included in the relevant publications. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2011. This edition constitutes a technical revision. It is a common part of the test procedures applied to end products and to solid electrical insulating materials or other solid combustible materials. GWFI is the highest temperature, determined during this standardized procedure, at which the tested material does not ignite or, if it does, extinguishes within 30 s after removal of the glow-wire and is not totally consumed; and molten drips, if they occur, do not ignite the wrapping tissue. This test method is a materials test carried out on a series of standard test specimens. The data obtained, along with data from the glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT) test method for materials, IEC 60695-2-13, can then be used in a preselection process in accordance with IEC 60695-1-30 [4] to judge the ability of materials to meet the requirements of IEC 60695-2-11. NOTE As an outcome of conducting a fire hazard assessment, an appropriate series of preselection flammability and ignition tests can allow a reduction of end product testing. This basic safety publication focusing on safety test method(s) is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of safety publications in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. Specifies a needle-flame test to simulate the effect of a small flame which may result from fault conditions, in order to assess by a simulation technique the fire hazard. It is applicable to electrotechnical equipment, its sub-assemblies and components and to solid electrical insulating materials or other combustible materials. This first edition of EN 60695-11-5 cancels and replaces the second edition of EN 60695-2-2, issued in 1991 and its amendment 1 (1994). It also constitutes a technical revision. The structure of this standard remains essentially the same with some major new changes and concepts added: - The scope has been broadened to allow this test method to also simulate the effects of small flames from outside the equipment. - A new concept has been added which allows the burner to be moved during the test to avoid dripping material from falling onto the tip of the burner tube. - The burner tube material is now a referenced source. - The reference for the copper block material has changed - the ISO publication (ISO 1337) has been withdrawn with no replacement. A new callout is now used. - Informative Annex B and a bibliography have been added. It has the status of a basic safety publication in accordance with IEC Guide 104.
