Scope and hazard framing

• Clause 1 replaces the general scope wording with a clearer statement on reasonably foreseeable hazards. In practice, the safety assessment has to cover hazards that can arise in normal and foreseeable use.
• Clause 1 also adds that people with disabilities can have needs beyond the level addressed in the standard. For a supplier, that is a reminder to consider the intended user group when setting instructions, controls, and warnings.

Markings and instructions

• Clause 7.12 adds the intended use of the appliance as covered by the scope. This helps users and testers verify that the product category is identified correctly.
• Clause 7.12 also adds a cord warning about not letting the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces. In practice, the user information must address cord routing and heat exposure.

Construction limits

• Clause 22.40 states that remote operation or a delayed start timer is not allowed. This means irons covered by this amendment are not to be designed with start-from-distance or delayed-start functions.
• Clauses 22.49 and 22.51 add that the appliance cannot operate continuously without giving rise to a hazard. Designers therefore need to control overheating and any continuous-duty behavior that could create danger.
• New subclause 22.Z101 sets a minimum free length of the supply cord of more than 1.9 m for irons fitted with a supply cord, other than those with a separate reservoir or boiler. That creates a concrete dimensional check for cord design and measurement.

Test and conformity context

• Clause 31 changes resistance to rusting to not applicable. That removes this Part 1 clause from the assessment path for this part.
• Annex ZZA and Annex ZZC map the standard to Directive 2014/35/EU and Directive 2014/53/EU. When the standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, the mapped clauses can support presumption of conformity within the stated scope.
