Fibre optic active components and devices - Package and interface standards - Part 1: General and guidance

Aims to assure interchangeability in physical interfaces between fibre optic active components and devices supplied by different manufacturers. It defines physical interfaces only, and not performance standards.

Foreword
The text of document 86C/384/FDIS, future edition 1 of IEC 62148-1, prepared by SC 86C, Fibre optic
systems and active devices, of IEC TC 86, Fibre optics, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel
vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 62148-1 on 2002-04-01.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2003-01-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2005-04-01
This standard forms one of a series under the general title: Fibre optic active coponents and devices -
Package and interface standards. This part 1 of EN 62148 covers general information and includes
references, definitions and rules for creating an interface standard.
Subsequent parts are sequentially numbered and contain standard interfaces for specific active
components and devices. Each part will be added as the interfaces become standardized for
international use.
