IEC 61290-1-1:2020 is available as IEC 61290-1-1:2020 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 61290-1-1:2020 applies to all commercially available optical amplifiers (OAs) and optically amplified modules. It applies to OAs using optical fibre amplifiers (OFAs) based on either rare-earth doped fibres or on the Raman effect, semiconductor OAs (SOAs) and planar optical waveguide amplifiers (POWAs). The object of this document is to establish uniform requirements for accurate and reliable measurements, by means of the optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) test method, of the following OA parameters, as defined in IEC 61291-1: - nominal output signal power; - gain; - polarization-dependent gain (PDG); - maximum output signal power; - maximum total output power. In addition, this document provides the test method of: - gain ripple (for SOAs). NOTE All numerical values followed by (‡) are suggested values for which the measurement is assured. The object of this document is specifically directed to single-channel amplifiers. Test methods for multichannel amplifiers are standardized in IEC 61290-10 (all parts). This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2015 and constitutes a technical revision. IEC 62343:2017(E) applies to all commercially available optical dynamic modules and devices. It describes the products covered by the IEC 62343 series, defines terminology, fundamental considerations and basic approaches. The object of this document is to: establish uniform requirements for operation, reliability and environmental properties of dynamic modules (DMs) to be implemented in the appropriate DM standard, and provide assistance to the purchaser in the selection of consistently high-quality DM products for his particular applications, as well as in the consultation of the appropriate specific DM standard(s). This document covers performance templates, performance standards, reliability qualification requirements, hardware and software interfaces and related testing methods. Since a dynamic module integrates an optical module/device, printed wiring board, and software/firmware, the standards developed in the series will mimic appropriate existing standards. On the other hand, since "dynamic module" is a relatively new product category, the dynamic module standards series will not be bounded by the existing practices where requirements differ. The safety standards as related to dynamic modules are mostly optical power considerations, which is covered by IEC TC 76: Optical radiation safety and laser equipment. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2013. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical change with respect to the previous edition: the inclusion of definitions for the wavelength selective switch.

IEC 61757-2-2:2016(E) defines detail specifications for distributed temperature measurement by a fibre optic sensor, also known as fibre optic distributed temperature sensing (DTS). DTS includes the use of Raman scattering, Brillouin scattering and Rayleigh scattering effects. In addition, Raman scattering and Rayleigh scattering based measurements are performed with a single-ended fibre configuration only. Brillouin scattering based measurements are performed with a single-ended fibre or fibre loop configuration. The technique accessible from both sides at same time (e. g. Brillouin optical time domain analysis, BOTDA) is referred to here as a loop configuration. Generic specifications for fibre optic sensors are defined in IEC 61757-1:2012. This part of IEC 61757 specifies the most important DTS performance parameters and defines the procedures for their determination. In addition to the group of performance parameters, a list of additional parameters has been defined to support the definition of the measurement specifications and their associated test procedures. The definitions of these additional parameters are provided for informational purposes and should be included with the sets of performance parameters. A general test setup is defined in which all parameters can be gathered through a set of tests. The specific tests are described within the clause for each measurement parameter. This general test setup is depicted and described in Clause 4 along with a list of general information that should be documented based upon the specific DTS instrument and test setup used to measure these parameters as per IEC 61757-2-2. Annex A provides a blank performance parameter table which should be used to record the performance parameter values for a given DTS instrument and chosen optical test setup configuration. Annex B provides guidelines for optional determination of point defect effects. Keywords: fibre optic distributed temperature sensing (DTS) This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61757-1:2012

IEC 62149-3:2014 covers the performance specification for optical modulators monolithically integrated with laser diodes for 2,5 Gbit/s to 40 Gbit/s multi-channel fibre optic transmission systems. This performance standard contains a definition of the product performance requirements together with a series of sets of tests and measurements with clearly defined conditions, severities and pass/fail criteria. The tests are intended to be run as an initial design verification to prove any product's ability to satisfy the performance standard's requirements. This standard is only applicable for on-off keying format. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2004 and constitutes a technical revision. The significant technical change with respect to the previous edition is as follows: The performance standards covered by this standard are now extended to a 40 Gb/s-class system from their original 2,5 Gb/s. Keywords: optical modulators monolithically integrated, laser diodes, 2,5 Gbit/s to 40 Gbit/s multi-channel fibre optic transmission systems

IEC 61757-4-3: 2020 defines terminology, structure, and a characteristic test method of an optical current sensor using the polarimetric method. It addresses the current sensing element only and not the additional devices that are unique to each application. Generic specifications for fibre optic sensors are defined in IEC 61757. As the specifications of optical polarimetric fibre current sensors required by each user vary depending on the application, this document does not define the required performance values. The required performance values are defined when designing a sensor according to the specific application.

IEC 61280-4-5: 2020 is applicable to the measurement of attenuation and determination of polarity and length of installed multimode and single-mode optical fibre cabling plant, terminated with MPO connectors, using test equipment having an MPO interface. This cabling plant can include multimode or single-mode optical fibres, connectors, adapters, splices, and other passive devices. The cabling can be installed in a variety of environments including residential, commercial, industrial, and data centre premises, as well as outside plant environments. In this document, the optical fibres that are addressed include sub-categories A1-OMx, where x = 2, 3, 4 and 5 (50/125 μm) multimode optical fibres, as specified in IEC 60793-2-10, and category B-652 and B-657 (9/125 μm) single-mode optical fibres, as specified in IEC 60793-2-50. The attenuation measurements of the other multimode and single-mode categories can also be made using a light source and power meter (LSPM) or optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) utilising an internal or external optical switch having one MPO interface. Multimode measurements are made with an 850 nm source because transceivers used for parallel optics applications having an MPO interface only operate at 850 nm; 1 300 nm measurements are optional. Single-mode measurements are made with a 1 310 nm and/or 1 550 nm source because transceivers used for parallel optics applications having an MPO interface operate at these wavelengths. This document does not include descriptions of cabling that is not exclusively MPO to MPO.

IEC 61280-4-4:2017(E) provides uniform methods of measuring polarization mode dispersion (PMD) of single-mode installed links. An installed link is the optical path between transmitter and receiver, or a portion of that optical path. These measurements can be used to assess the suitability of a given link for high bit rate applications, or to provide insight on the relationships of various related transmission attributes. This document focuses on the measurement methods and requirements for measuring long lengths of installed cabling that can also include other optical elements, such as splices, connectors, amplifiers, chromatic dispersion compensating modules, dense wavelength division multiplexing or multiplexer (DWDM) components, multiplexers, wavelength selective switches, re-configurable optical add drop multiplexer (ROADMS). This document focuses on the apparatus, procedures, and calculations needed to complete measurements. IEC TR 61282-9 explains the theory behind the test methods. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2006. This second edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - theory is removed and replaced with a reference to IEC TR 61282-9; - a new method, wavelength scanning OTDR and SOP analysis (WSOSA), is added as Annex G; - a brief description of each method is added to Clause 5; - Methods E and F are converted to informative Annexes E and F; - a new Clause (6) on measurement configurations is added; - a new Clause (7) on measurement considerations is added; - Clause 10 on procedure is expanded; - several of the apparatus diagrams are improved; - several clarifications about what is measured and what is calculated have been made in Annex H. Keywords: Polarization mode dispersion (PMD), single-mode installed links
