____________
CLOTHES WASHING MACHINES FOR HOUSEHOLD USE –
METHODS FOR MEASURING THE PERFORMANCE

AMENDMENT 1
FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between
any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.
5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
services carried out by independent certification bodies.
6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
Publications.
8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is
indispensable for the correct application of this publication.
9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
Amendment 1 to IEC 60456:2010 has been prepared by subcommittee 59D: Performance of
household and similar electrical laundry appliances, of IEC technical committee 59:
Performance of household and similar electrical appliances.
The text of this Amendment is based on the following documents:

___________
Annex B
(normative)
Reference detergent A*
Relabel NOTE as NOTE 1.
At the end of the Annex B add following text:
From 27 May 2023, the standard powder detergent (IEC-P) shall replace reference
detergent A*.
The dosage of standard powder detergent (IEC-P) shall be as follows:
• The equivalent amount of the standard powder detergent (IEC-P), as compared to the
amount of reference detergent A*, shall be used. Since the oxygen content of sodium
percarbonate is higher than that of sodium perborate, the proportion of bleach in the
standard powder detergent (IEC-P) is lower than in reference detergent A*.
• Owing to the resulting increased proportion of the base powder in standard powder
detergent IEC-P compared to the reference detergent A*, the detergent dosage shall be
adjusted.
• In general, use a quantity of standard powder detergent (IEC-P) equal to 94 % of the
quantity of the reference detergent A*.
• Use a quantity of base powder of standard powder detergent (IEC-P) equal to 100 % of the
quantity of the base powder of reference detergent A* when only the base powder of
detergent A* is indicated for the preparation of test specimens (e.g. wool shrinkage
specimens) or test loads.
The test results achieved using the standard powder detergent (IEC-P) shall not be compared
with the test results achieved using the reference detergent A*.
NOTE 2 Tests have shown that the washing performance, in terms of Tristimulus-Y values, cannot be guaranteed
to be the same under all possible testing conditions when using reference detergent A* or the standard powder
detergent (IEC-P).
The standard powder detergent (IEC-P) is defined in Table B.2. The detergent is distributed as
three separate components:
– 4 – IEC 60456:2010/AMD1:2022
© IEC 2022
• base powder with enzyme and foam inhibitor;
• sodium percarbonate;
• bleach activator tetraacetylethylenediamine.
The proportions of components of the standard powder detergent (IEC-P) used in tests are as
follows:
• 82 % base powder with enzyme and foam inhibitor;
• 15 % sodium percarbonate;
• 3 % bleach activator tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED).
Mixing of detergent components and placement of detergent is specified in 6.3.
It is recommended that the three components of detergent IEC-P are stored separately and
mixed thoroughly in due time.

NOTE 1 The percentages in this table refer to technical products representing the ingredients, not to the active
substance.
NOTE 2 The suppliers of standard powder detergent (IEC-P) are the same as those of reference detergent A*;
see Annex U.
The supplier shall mark the date of manufacturing for this detergent or detergent component on
the container. The lifetime of each component and the storage conditions shall be specified by
the manufacturer. If no expiry date for this detergent or detergent component is specified by
the manufacturer, the expiry date is deemed to be one year from the date of manufacture.
The base powder of the standard powder detergent (IEC-P) described in Table B.2 shall fulfil
the following low-temperature solubility requirements in terms of insoluble residues.
