Overview
ISO 5599-2:2001 specifies standardized mounting interface surfaces for five-port, four-way pneumatic directional control valves with an optional electrical connector. Intended for valves up to a maximum rated pressure of 1.6 MPa (16 bar), the standard defines dimensional features, port and actuation identification, electrical connector mating geometry and basic electrical/contact requirements to promote interchangeability between valve manufacturers.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Dimensional requirements and tolerances for interface features and mounting surfaces across sizes 1E–6E, including orifice areas (examples: 79, 143, 269, 438, 652, 924 mm²).
- Surface condition: specified surface roughness Ra = 1.6 µm and flatness 0.1 mm over 100 mm for the mounting area.
- Port and orifice identification: principal flow ports numbered 1–5 and actuation orifices 12 and 14 (port 14 preferred for single-source external solenoid pilot supply). Defined actuation results and monostable valve stable position rules.
- Electrical connector specification (optional): connector must be removable, rated 300 V AC/DC, with contact arrangement of four live contacts plus one earth. Earth contact must make first and break last and is 1.5 mm longer than other contacts. Pins: 2.03–2.18 mm diameter; connector contact assignments and orientation (contacts 1 & 4 parallel to valve port slots; 1 & 3 for single solenoid; 2 & 4 for second solenoid; contact 5 earth). Wire cross-section guidance: 0.75–2.5 mm².
- Mounting interface drawings and tolerances: figures and tabulated dimensions for precise base/valve mating and connector envelope/engagement depths.
- Note: ISO 5599-2 addresses interface geometry and identification - it is not applicable to valve functional characteristics.
Applications
- Ensures mechanical and electrical interchangeability of five-port directional control valves in:
- Industrial automation and pneumatic actuators
- Machine tool and assembly-line OEM equipment
- Modular valve manifolds and quick-change pneumatic modules
- Maintenance and spare-part sourcing where cross-vendor compatibility is required
Who should use this standard
- Pneumatic valve manufacturers and designers

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting.
Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this part of ISO 5599 may be the subject of patent
rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
International Standard ISO 5599-2 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 131, Fluid power systems,
Subcommittee SC 5, Control products and components.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 5599-2:1990), which has been technically revised.
ISO 5599 consists of the following parts, under the general title Pneumatic fluid power — Five-port directional control
valves:

— Part 3: Code system for communication of valve functions

Introduction
In pneumatic fluid power systems, power is transmitted and controlled through a gas under pressure circulating
within a circuit.
The various devices for gas distribution and control can be either mounted directly onto the piping, or mounted on
interface surfaces to allow quicker dismantling and to promote equipment interchangeability.
Pneumatic directional control valves of the five-port, four-way type, as used on mounting interface surfaces
complying with the requirements of this part of ISO 5599, control the flow of compressed gas.
When the valve is electrically operated, it may be desirable to use an electrical connector at the interface of the valve
body and base. Users of pneumatic valves benefit when this electrical connector is standardized, allowing easy
electrical connection interchangeability between valves produced by different manufacturers.
Standardization of port and orifice identification, the result of control-mechanism actuation and a system of
dimensional tolerances are provided to enhance mounting interchangeability of pneumatic control valves used on the
mounting surfaces complying with the requirements of this part of ISO 5599.

Introduction

ISO 5599-2:2001 is a standard that specifies the requirements for a mounting interface surface with an optional electrical connector for five-port pneumatic directional control valves. The standard includes the dimensions and tolerances of the interface features, port identification, identification of control-mechanism actuation, and specifications for the optional electrical connector mating. However, it does not cover the functional characteristics of the interfaces.
