Overview
ISO 4195:2026 is an internationally recognized standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for conveyor belts with heat-resistant rubber covers. This standard establishes precise requirements and test methods that determine the heat resistance of rubber covers used in heavy-duty conveyor belts. It specifies permissible variations in critical physical properties-namely hardness (IRHD), elongation at break, and tensile strength-after exposure to controlled heat conditions. ISO 4195 applies exclusively to conveyor belts with a cover thickness of 4 mm or greater and is not applicable to light conveyor belts covered in ISO 21183-1.
By providing consistent testing procedures for heat resistance, ISO 4195 enables manufacturers, users, and quality assurance professionals to evaluate and ensure the durability and performance of conveyor belts in high-temperature environments.
Key Topics
Heat Resistance Testing
ISO 4195 defines standardized test methods for exposing conveyor belt samples to elevated temperatures and evaluating physical changes in rubber covers. Two main test methods (A and B) are included, differing by exposure time and temperature criteria.Physical Property Measurements
The standard details permissible changes in:- Hardness (IRHD)
- Elongation at break (%)
- Tensile strength (N/mm²) after thermal aging, ensuring that only belts with adequate performance under heat are classified as "heat resistant".
Belt Classification
Conveyor belts are categorized into four classes according to their heat resistance:- Class 1: Up to 100°C
- Class 2: Up to 125°C
- Class 3: Up to 150°C
- Class 4: Up to 175°C
This classification allows users to select products matched to their operational temperature demands.
Sample Preparation and Conditioning
The standard includes detailed instructions for sample conditioning, both in standard and tropical atmospheric conditions, referencing supporting ISO standards for rubber preparation and testing.Reporting Requirements
ISO 4195 prescribes the minimum data to be reported, including sample identification, testing conditions, belt class, and date of test, ensuring traceability and transparency.
Applications
ISO 4195 is essential wherever conveyor belts operate in high-temperature environments, offering significant benefits for:
Material Handling in Heavy Industry
Mines, cement plants, steel mills, and power generation rely on heat-resistant conveyor belts to safely and efficiently transport hot materials.Quality Assurance and Procurement
Purchasing agents and plant engineers use ISO 4195 to specify, test, and verify conveyor belts for heat resistance, minimizing the risk of premature failure and downtime.Manufacturing Compliance
Belt manufacturers utilize the standard to design, test, and certify their products, ensuring global market compatibility and customer satisfaction.Inspection and Certification
Testing laboratories and certifying bodies reference ISO 4195 to conduct independent assessments and provide certification for heat-resistant conveyor belts.
Related Standards
- ISO 37 - Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Determination of tensile stress-strain properties
- ISO 48-2 - Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Determination of hardness

- ISO 18573 - Conveyor belts - Test atmospheres and conditioning periods
- ISO 23529 - Rubber - Preparation and conditioning of test pieces
- ISO 21183-1 - Light conveyor belts - Principal characteristics and applications

revêtements — Exigences et méthodes d'essai
1 Domaine d’application
