Plastics - Determination of hardness - Part 1: Ball indentation method (ISO 2039-1:2001)

This part of ISO 2039 specifies a method for determining the hardness of plastics and ebonite by means of a
loaded ball indenter.
The ball indentation hardness determined by this method may provide data for research and development, quality
control and acceptance or rejection under specifications.

Dieser Teil von ISO 2039 legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Härte von Kunststoffen und Hartgummi mit Hilfe eines belasteten kugelförmigen Eindringkörpers fest.
Die nach diesem Verfahren bestimmte Kugeleindruckhärte kann Werte liefern für Forschung und Entwicklung, Qualitätskontrolle und Annahme oder Ablehnung nach Spezifikationen.

et de développement, le contrôle de la qualité, ainsi que pour l'acceptation ou le rejet suivant des spécifications.

Foreword
The text of ISO 2039-1:2001 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 61 "Plastics"
of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO
2039-1:2003 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 249 "Plastics", the secretariat of which is held by
IBN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of
an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by August 2003, and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by August 2003.
This document supersedes EN ISO 2039-1:1996.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of
the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech
Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy,

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.

This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 2039-1:1993), subclause 8.3 and annex A of which
have been technically revised.
ISO 2039 consists of the following parts, under the general title Plastics — Determination of hardness:
