Overview
SIST EN 61810-1:2015/A1:2021 is a European standard specifying the general and safety requirements for electromechanical elementary relays. Developed under the auspices of the CLC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization), this amendment (A1) updates the base standard EN 61810-1:2015, aligning with the IEC 61810-1:2015/A1:2019 international edition. It is designed to ensure a harmonized approach to the design, testing, and use of electromechanical relays across CENELEC member countries.
This standard is vital for manufacturers, designers, and safety engineers involved in electromechanical relays, ensuring reliable operation and compliance with safety regulations. It addresses general aspects, testing criteria, and safety measures in relay manufacturing and application.
Key Topics
- Scope and Definitions: Focuses on elementary electromechanical relays used in electrical devices, emphasizing performance and safety but excludes specific application details.
- General Requirements: Covers mechanical and electrical characteristics such as dimensions, mounting, connection methods, and environmental limits.
- Safety Requirements: Includes mandates for insulation, clearance, creepage distances, and protection against electrical shock hazards.
- Routine Tests: Specifies key verification procedures such as marking and documentation inspection, basic operating function checks, and dielectric strength tests to guarantee product reliability.
- Documentation and Marking: Highlights the importance of clear and standardized relay labeling and document provision for traceability, ensuring easier maintenance and compliance auditing.
- Amendments and Updates: The 2020 amendment introduces refinements in testing methods, like changes in routine test tables emphasizing conditions, voltages, and durations.
Applications
SIST EN 61810-1:2015/A1:2021 is applicable widely in industries and systems requiring dependable relay operations including:
- Industrial Automation: Ensures reliable switching and control in manufacturing processes.
- Electrical Distribution: Provides safety and performance guidelines for relays in circuit breakers and control panels.
- Building Automation: Governs relays used in HVAC systems, lighting controls, and security systems.
- Transport Systems: Applies to electromechanical relays controlling signaling equipment and safety interlocks.
- Consumer Appliances: Sets safety standards for embedded relays in household and commercial appliances.
Using relays compliant with this standard aids in minimizing electrical failures, improving operational safety, and ensuring conformity with international safety laws, thus reducing liability and enhancing product quality.
Related Standards
- IEC 61810-7: Addresses detailed testing methods for relay dielectric strength, often referenced for routine test parameters.
- EN 61810-2: Covers performance and specific product requirements for miniature plugs-in relays complementing Part 1.
- ISO/IEC 60364: Electrical installations standards applying complementary safety precautions.
- CENELEC Internal Regulations: Framework governing the adoption and implementation of amendments like SIST EN 61810-1:2015/A1:2021.
Adhering to EN 61810-1 alongside these standards ensures comprehensive compliance for product safety, reliability, and interoperability in the electrotechnical sector.
