SIST EN 3155-035:2012 is the Slovenian adoption of EN 3155-035:2012, a CEN European Standard for aerospace electrical contacts. It specifies the required characteristics, tests and tooling for female electrical triaxial contacts, size 08, type D, crimp, class R, used in elements of connection to EN 3155-002.
The standard is meant to be used with EN 3155-001. The associated male contacts are defined in EN 3155-034 and EN 3155-042.
What does SIST EN 3155-035:2012 specify?
SIST EN 3155-035:2012 covers one product type: female electrical triaxial contacts, size 08, type D, crimp, class R. It brings together the contact characteristics, the test program, the tooling, designation, marking, conditioning and technical specification needed to define and control these parts.
Clause 1 states the scope and clause 2 lists the normative references. Clause 3 points to the definitions in EN 3155-001, while clause 4 gives the detailed product requirements and test methods. Clauses 5 to 8 cover designation, marking, conditioning and technical specification.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 3155-035:2012?
Product design and materials
SIST EN 3155-035:2012 says Type D contacts are used where a screening feature is requested, and class R covers an operating temperature range from -65 °C to 150 °C. In practice, that tells you this contact is intended for screened aerospace interconnections that must work across a wide temperature range.
Clause 4.2 requires the dimensions to match Figure 1 and states that the dimensions apply after surface treatment. The contact mass is limited, so the part can be checked during inspection against the drawing and mass control.
Clause 4.4 specifies copper alloy for the contact parts and crimp ferrule, gold surface treatment on an appropriate undercoat, and PTFE dielectric. That matters for procurement and incoming inspection because material and finish affect electrical performance and compatibility.
Cable preparation and tooling
Clause 4.5 links the contact to typical cable constructions through TR 6058 cable code groups. Clause 4.6 gives the stripping and wiring sequence, including braid folding, conductor placement and the final braid and jacket crimp.
Clause 4.7 identifies the tooling to use. The crimping tools must conform to MIL-DTL-22520G, and the insertion/extraction tools must conform to MIL-I-81969/14-06. For production, that means the assembler has a defined tool set, not a free choice.
Verification and acceptance
Clause 4.8 sets the test program by reference to EN 2591-100 and Table 3. The tests cover visual examination, dimensions and mass, contact resistance, discontinuity, insulation resistance, voltage proof, endurance, temperature cycling, shock, vibration, tensile strength, gauge forces, coating checks and magnetic permeability.
The same clause also ties some tests to EN 3682-001. In practice, this links the contact qualification to aerospace environmental and mechanical conditions, so manufacturers and buyers can judge whether the part suits service use.
Identification and supply
Clause 5 gives the designation structure, including the contact size, cable code group and delivery mode. Clause 7 says contacts are packaged and identified individually, with the manufacturer’s name, designation, reference and date code on the package.
That matters for purchasing and traceability. A buyer can specify the exact variant, and a quality manager can check that the delivered parts are correctly identified and protected.
What terms does SIST EN 3155-035:2012 define?
Clause 3 uses the terms and definitions from EN 3155-001. In this standard, the most important terms are tied to the contact structure and ordering code.
- female contact - the socket-side contact covered by this standard.
- type D - a contact type used when a screening feature is requested.
- class R - the contact class for the -65 °C to 150 °C operating range.
- crimp - the termination method used for the conductors and braid.
- intermediate contact - the middle contact path between the centre and outer contact.
- outer contact - the outer contact path used in the triaxial arrangement.
- delivery mode - the supply option coded as without sleeve, with sleeve or with sealing sleeve.
Who uses SIST EN 3155-035:2012?
SIST EN 3155-035:2012 is used by aerospace connector and contact manufacturers, cable harness assemblers, test laboratories, quality teams and buyers. They use it to select the right contact, choose cables and tools, qualify crimped assemblies, and check marking and packaging during acceptance.
What changed in SIST EN 3155-035:2012 from the previous edition?
SIST EN 3155-035:2012 supersedes EN 3155-035:2006. The amendment record also notes a correction in Figure 1 for the dimensions identified by keys d and e.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 3155-035:2012?
- EN 3155-001 - gives the common technical specification and the base definitions used here.
- EN 3155-002 - identifies the list and utilization of contacts.
- EN 3155-034 - defines the associated male triaxial contacts, size 08, type D, crimp, class R.
- EN 3155-042 - defines related male triaxial contacts with solder termination.
- EN 3155-043 - defines related female triaxial contacts with solder termination.
- EN 2591 (all parts) - provides the test methods used in clause 4.8.
- EN 3682-001 - is used for shock, vibration and fluid resistance conditions.
- MIL-DTL-22520G - defines the crimping tools.
- MIL-I-81969/14-06 - defines the insertion and extraction tools.
- SAE AS 39029/95 - is named for interchangeability context.
- TR 6058 - provides the cable code identification list used for cable selection.
What does the SIST EN 3155-035:2012 document contain?
The document contains the standard front matter, clauses 1 to 8, and an amendment record sheet. Its technical core is Figure 1 for the contact geometry, Figures 2 to 4 for ferrules, cable build and wiring sequence, Table 1 for typical cables, Table 2 for tooling, Table 3 for the test program, Figure 5 and Table 4 for gauges, and Tables 5 for delivery mode coding.
It also gives the designation format used for ordering and identification, plus the packaging information required for delivered parts.
