Ventilation for buildings - Design criteria for the indoor environment
This European Prestandard specifies the requirements for, and methods of expressing the quality of the indoor environment for the design, commissioning, operation and control of ventilation and air-conditioning systems. For the purposes of this prestandard, the indoor environment comprises the thermal environment, the air quality and the acoustic environment. This prestandard covers indoor environments where the major concern is the human occupation but excludes dwellings.

This standard applies to the natural ventilation and fan-assisted ventilation of residential buildings,
dwellings and similarly used units which are predominantly used for living purposes, including halls of
residence, retirement homes and nursing homes, and similar institutions during the heating period and throughout the entire year in basements (see Annex F) in residential buildings.
The ventilation concept specified in Clause 4 and Clause 5 applies to new buildings and to existing buildings in which modifications are made relevant to the ventilation regime. Where there is no moisture-protection ventilation, or if additional requirements (e. g. noise protection, hygiene, air quality, etc.) are to be taken into consideration, then suitable ventilation measures are suggested in Clauses 7 to 9.
In Clauses 6 to 9 this standard specifies requirements for natural ventilation systems (cross ventilation, shaft ventilation), fan-assisted ventilation systems, and combinations thereof, taking into consideration the maintenance of the necessary indoor air quality while ensuring moisture protection.
Ensuring ventilation for the purposes of moisture protection by manually opening windows is not covered by this standard. Manual opening of windows is taken into consideration for ventilation levels that are not explicitly designed for.
This standard specifies requirements on the planning, design and commissioning, and the operation and maintenance of the required ventilation components and/or units for natural ventilation systems and fan-assisted ventilation systems with user-independent moisture protection in each case, making due allowance for aspects of construction engineering physics, ventilation, hygiene and energy utilization.
The design recommendations of this standard apply for dwellings with low emissions of harmful substances.Unduly high emissions from the building and in the building environment may require additional measures.
This standard does not apply to active cooling1 air treatment methods nor to active humidification and dehumidification.
As regards the ventilation of windowless rooms, the Bauaufsichtliche Richtlinie über die Lüftung fensterloser Küchen, Bäder und Toilettenräume (Code of practice on ventilation of windowless kitchens, bathrooms and toilet rooms) and DIN 18017-3 apply to the ventilation of windowless kitchens, bathrooms and WCs in dwellings

This document specifies the terms, definitions, test conditions, test methods and requirements for rating the performance of air conditioners and liquid chilling packages, with electrically driven compressors and with evaporatively cooled condenser when used for space cooling. The evaporatively cooled condenser is cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water. This additional external water is fed by a specific water supply circuit or by a water tank.
This document does not apply to air-to-air and air-to-water air conditioners with a condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of water condensed on their evaporator.
This document applies to units equipped with a water tank or with a continuous water circuit supply that can also operate without water feeding. However, this document only concerns the testing of these units with water feeding.
This document applies to factory-made units which can be ducted.
This document applies to factory-made units of either fixed capacity or variable capacity by any means.
Packaged units, single split and multisplit systems are covered by this document.
With regard to units consisting of several parts, this document applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package.
For evaporatively cooled condenser units that can also operate in heating mode, their performance in this mode is determined according to EN 14511 (all parts).
Installations used for industrial processes cooling are not within the scope of this document.
This document specifies the conditions for which performance data will be declared for compliance to the Ecodesign Regulation 206/2012 and to the Energy Labelling Regulation 626/2011 of air conditioners with evaporatively cooled condenser in cooling mode.

This European Standard specifies the terms and definitions for the rating and performance of air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps using either air, water or brine as heat transfer media, with electrically driven compressors when used for space heating and/or cooling.
It also specifies the terms and definitions for the rating and performance of process chillers.
This European Standard does not apply to heat pumps for domestic hot water, although certain definitions can be applied to these.
This European Standard applies to:
- factory-made units that can be ducted,
- factory-made liquid chilling packages with integral condensers or for use with remote condensers,
- factory-made units of either fixed capacity or variable capacity by any means, and
- air-to-air air conditioners which can also evaporate the condensate on the condenser side.
Packaged units, single split and multisplit systems are covered by this standard. Single duct and double duct units are covered by the standard.
In the case of units consisting of several parts, this European Standard applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package, except for liquid chilling packages with remote condenser.
This European Standard is primarily intended for water and brine chilling packages but can be used for other liquid subject to agreement.
The units having their condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water should have their performance in the cooling mode determined in accordance to EN 15218. For those which can also operate in the heating mode, the EN 14511 series applies for the determination of their performance in the heating mode.
NOTE 1 Part load testing of units is dealt with in EN 14825.

This document specifies the laboratory test methods and test requirements for the testing of aerodynamic, thermal, acoustic and the electrical performance characteristics of non-ducted mechanical supply and exhaust ventilation units used in single dwellings.
The purpose of this document is not to consider the quality of ventilation but to test the performance of the equipment.
In general, a ventilation unit contains:
- fans for mechanical supply and exhaust;
- air filters;
- air-to-air heat exchanger for heat and possibly humidity recovery;
- control system;
- inlet and outlet grilles.
Such equipment can be provided in more than one assembly, the separate assemblies of which are designed to be used together.
Such equipment can contain alternating heat exchangers which provide separate supply and exhaust air flows.
In certain cases, i.e. alternating ventilation unit, the manufacturer may declare that the equipment can be installed in such a way that it serves more than one room. For the purpose of this document, these products are assessed in a single room.
This document does not deal with ducted units or units with heat pumps.
Safety requirements are given in EN 60335 2 40 and EN 60335 2 80.

This document specifies procedures and conditions to enable the heat flux in water-based surface heating and cooling systems to be determined relative to the medium differential temperature for systems. The determination of thermal performance of water-based surface heating and cooling systems and their conformity to this document is carried out by calculation in accordance with design documents and a model. This enables a uniform assessment and calculation of water-based surface heating and cooling systems. The surface temperature and the temperature uniformity of the heated/cooled surface, nominal heat flux between water and space, the associated nominal medium differential temperature, and the field of characteristic curves for the relationship between heat flux and the determining variables are given as the result. This document includes a general method based on finite difference or finite element Methods and simplified calculation methods depending on position of pipes and type of building structure.

This document establishes requirements for the installation of embedded radiant heating and cooling
systems. It specifies general and uniform requirements for the design and construction of heating
and cooling floors, ceiling and wall structures to ensure that the heating/cooling systems are suited
to the particular application. The requirements specified by this document are applicable only to the
components of the heating/cooling systems and the elements which are part of the heating/cooling
surface and which are installed due to the heating/cooling systems.
This document is applicable to water-based embedded surface heating and cooling systems in
residential, commercial and industrial buildings. The methods apply to systems integrated into the
wall, floor or ceiling construction without any open-air gaps, but are not applicable to panel systems
with open-air gaps which are not integrated into the building structure.
