What are the key requirements of SIST EN 695:2005?
SIST EN 695:2005 is mainly a dimensional standard. Its practical purpose is to make sure the sink openings and surrounding surfaces can accept the intended fittings and can be installed and sealed correctly.
Waste outlet holes
Clause 4 sets the connecting dimensions for waste outlet holes, with different cases depending on sink material and whether the sink has an integral overflow. The requirement matters because the waste fitting must seat correctly and seal against the sink opening.
The clause also gives the geometry of the waste outlet area through reference dimensions, sealing surfaces and the relationship between the bowl underside and the outlet opening. Table 1 is the key place to check when matching a sink to a waste outlet, and Figures 1 and 2 show example hole shapes and a punched grill.
Clause 4 also states an exception: the table does not apply when the waste outlets are supplied by the manufacturer together with the kitchen sink.
Tap hole fitting areas
Clause 5.1 sets the fitting area for a single tap hole. It covers the tap hole opening, the clearance for the tap pedestal, the thickness of material in the tap area and the space needed for tool access.
In practice, this tells a designer or buyer whether the sink top provides enough room for mounting the tap and tightening the fixings. It also states that the distance from the tap hole centre line to the nearest bowl edge is to be stated by the tap manufacturer, so the sink and tap have to be chosen together.
Clause 5.2 gives the fitting area for a two-hole mixer tap. The important practical point is the fixed spacing between the two tap holes and the required underside clearance, which matters when checking whether a bridge mixer can be mounted on the sink.
Overflow holes
Clause 6 covers overflow holes when they are provided. The dimensions in Table 4 govern the position, size, clearances and thickness around the overflow opening.
The clause matters because the overflow has to sit in the right place relative to the waste outlet and the spill-over level of the sink. It also includes an exception for sinks with an integral overflow, and another exception when the overflow and its pipework are supplied by the manufacturer together with the sink.

This European Standard (EN 695:2005) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 163 “Sanitary
appliances”, the secretariat of which is held by UNI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or
by endorsement, at the latest by February 2006, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest
by February 2006.
This document supersedes EN 695:1997.
