This amendment A11 modifies the European Standard EN 60335-2-99:2003; it was approved by CENELEC on 2021-11-15. CENELEC
members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the
status of a national standard without any alteration.
Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on application to the CEN-CENELEC
Management Centre or to any CENELEC member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the
responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre has the same status as
the official versions.

and similar electrical appliances”.
The following dates are fixed:

• latest date by which the national standards conflicting (dow) 2026-03-01
with this document have to be withdrawn
The numbering system for European clauses, subclauses, notes, tables, figures and annexes that are
additional to those in the IEC standard are prefixed with the letter “Z”.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of

1 Modification to the Introduction
Addition:
This European Amendment A11 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses of the standards
below:
— EN 60335-1:2012+A11:2014+ A13:2017+A1:2019+A14:2019+A2:2019+A15:2021 (Part 1)
— EN 60335-2-99:2003+A1:2019 (Part 2)
2 Modification to Clause 1, Scope
Replace first and second paragraph and Note 101 by the following:
This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following.
This document deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial hoods intended to collect and
conduct contaminated air, and not intended for household use, their rated voltage being not more than
250 V for single phase, and 480 V for others hoods.
The following extraction systems are covered as well:
— back draft ventilation;
— downdraft ventilation;
— air conducting systems.
NOTE 101 Hoods may be used together with one or more commercial catering appliances of the same or different
types. Commercial catering appliances are used, for example in restaurants, canteens, hospitals and commercial
enterprises such as bakeries, butcheries, etc.
Add a new dashes items in Note 103:
— hoods designed for use in vehicles or on board of ships or aircraft,
— hoods with special treatment of cooking fumes, e.g. UV-C treatment, plasma-treatment, catalyser,
etc.,
— ventilation and air conditioning systems,
— exhaust air systems.
Add a new paragraph:
This document deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by appliances that are
encountered by all persons in and around the installation place. However, in general, it does not take into
account:
— children playing with the appliance;
— the use of the appliance by children;
It is recognized that very vulnerable people may have needs beyond the level addressed in this
standard.

3 Modification to Clause 2, Normative references
Add the following normative reference:

Add the following definitions:

person or persons installing, operating, adjusting, maintaining, cleaning, repairing or moving appliances
5 Modification to Clause 4, General requirement
Replace the first sentence in part 1 starting with “Unless otherwise specified,…” by the following:
Appliances shall be constructed so that they function safely so as to cause no danger to persons or
surroundings during normal use, even in the event of carelessness, and during installation, adjusting,
maintenance, cleaning, repairing or transportation.
6 Modification to Clause 7, Marking and instructions
7.1 Modification
In the first paragraph of part 1 starting with “Appliances shall be marked with…”, replace the fourth and
fifth dashed items by the following:
— business name and full address of the manufacturer and, where applicable, his authorized
representative;
— model or type reference, serial number if any and production year;
NOTE Z101 Production year is the year when the production process is completed. The production year can be a
part of the serial number.
In the first paragraph of part 1 starting with “Appliances shall be marked with…”, add the following new
dashed item and paragraph:
— designation of the appliance.
The designation may be a combination of letters and/or numbers and shall enable to identify the machine
as specified in the instructions.
7.12 Addition
If symbol 7000-0434A (2004-01) is marked on the appliance, their meaning shall be explained.
The front cover of the instructions shall include the substance of the following:
CAUTION: Read the instructions before using the appliance
This wording may be replaced by symbols ISO 7000-0434A and ISO 7000-0790.
The instructions shall also state the maximum weight of the appliance when ready for installation.

The instructions shall contain the following:
— business name and full address of the manufacturer and, where applicable, his authorized
representative;
— model or type reference of the appliance as marked on the appliance itself, except for the serial
number;
— a designation of the appliance together with its explanation in case it is given by a combination of
letters and/or numbers;
— a general description of the appliance, when needed due to the complexity of the appliance;
— intended use of the appliance as covered by the scope of this standard;
— meaning of the symbols used on the appliance and in the instructions;
— information regarding putting into service and use of the appl
