EN 16002:2018 is a CEN test standard for flexible sheets for roof waterproofing. It specifies a laboratory method to determine the resistance to wind load of mechanically fastened membrane systems by measuring the membrane performance under controlled suction (wind uplift) cycles. The assessment is limited to the behaviour of the flexible sheet itself (the membrane and its fixings as installed in the sheet) and does not determine the performance of the mechanical fastener, the fastener‑to‑substrate combination, or the supporting deck.

- Fan with control system able to reproduce dynamic gust load cycles.
- Instruments: pressure measurement device (accuracy ±2% or minimum 0.2 kN/m²), thermometer (±1 °C), chronometer (±0.1 s), and a time/pressure recorder capable of registering pressure every 0.1 s.
- Calibration: Equipment calibrated using reference suction pressures (e.g., 3 kPa and 6 kPa) and verified at the required timing tolerances.
- Test procedure: Applies defined load/time gust cycles and monitors peak pressures (P100% etc.), number of cycles to failure (nf) and peak load per fastener (Wi). Statistical and geometric correction factors (Cd, Ca) are used to derive characteristic loads.
- Limitations: The method excludes evaluation of the mechanical fastener and substrate combination - use ETAG 006 (Annex D) or relevant national procedures for fastener system assessment.
