Overview
SIST ETS 300 445:1998/A1:1998 is a Slovenian adoption of the European Telecommunications Standard ETS 300 445, with Amendment 1, developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). This standard specifies the requirements for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of wireless microphones and similar Radio Frequency (RF) audio link equipment. It aims to ensure minimal electromagnetic interference and robust operation for wireless audio devices. The standard is intended as a harmonized norm under the EMC Directive 89/336/EEC, facilitating compliance and free movement of such equipment within the European Economic Area.
Key Topics
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): The standard sets out requirements to control both emissions and immunity aspects for RF audio link equipment, reducing interference with other electronic devices.
- Scope of Equipment: Applicability includes wireless microphones, similar audio link equipment, and associated transmitters and receivers operating in the 25 MHz to 3 GHz frequency range.
- Testing Procedures: Details are provided for emission tests (enclosure, power ports) and immunity tests (RF fields, electrostatic discharge, voltage transients, etc.).
- Harmonization with EU Laws: SIST ETS 300 445:1998/A1:1998, in conjunction with ETS 300 454, is designed to become a harmonized standard with references in the Official Journal of the European Communities, supporting conformity with the EU EMC Directive.
- Annexed Regulatory Decisions: Includes references to relevant ERC Decisions, guiding national authorities on adopting and regulating wireless microphone equipment according to harmonized profiles.
Applications
This standard is essential for manufacturers, regulators, and users of wireless microphones and RF audio link systems to:
- Product Development: Ensuring that equipment meets recognized EMC performance and safety criteria, supporting reliable wireless audio transmission.
- Market Access: Facilitating the acceptance and certification of wireless microphones and RF audio devices within European and international markets by ensuring compliance with harmonized standards.
- National Regulation and Type Approval: Supporting regulators in establishing approval regimes, as equipment compliant with this standard is recognized across participating European countries.
- Event Production and Broadcasting: Ensuring dependable, interference-free operation of wireless microphones in live performances, broadcasts, public events, conferencing, and touring where RF audio equipment is widely used.
Related Standards
- ETS 300 445: The base European standard covering EMC requirements for wireless microphones and similar equipment.
- I-ETS 300 422: Specifies technical characteristics and test methods for wireless microphones in the 25 MHz to 3 GHz range, referenced in national approval regulations.
- ETS 300 454: Complementary standard intended to work jointly with ETS 300 445 as part of the harmonized EMC framework.
- EMC Directive (89/336/EEC): The EU directive referenced for ensuring electromagnetic compatibility of radio equipment.
- ERC Decision (ERC/DEC/(96)15): Provides the mechanism for European countries to harmonize national approval regulations based on these standards.
Practical Value
Adhering to SIST ETS 300 445:1998/A1:1998 ensures wireless microphones and RF audio link equipment:
- Meet the essential EMC requirements for operation within the European Union.
- Gain easier and faster certification and access to European markets.
- Demonstrate regulatory compliance, critical for both manufacturers and users in professional audio, events, and broadcasting sectors.
- Contribute to reducing electromagnetic interference, improving the reliability and safety of wireless audio devices in shared RF environments.
