62 INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION
63 ____________
65 ARC WELDING EQUIPMENT –
67 Part 4: Periodic inspection and testing
69 FOREWORD
70 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
71 all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
72 international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
73 this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
74 Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC
75 Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
76 in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
77 governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
78 with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
79 agreement between the two organizations.
80 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
81 consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
82 interested IEC National Committees.
83 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
84 Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
85 Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
86 misinterpretation by any end user.
87 4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
88 transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence
89 between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in
90 the latter.
91 5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
92 assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
93 services carried out by independent certification bodies.
94 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
95 7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
96 members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
97 other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
98 expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
99 Publications.
100 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is
101 indispensable for the correct application of this publication.
102 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject of
103 patent rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
104 International Standard IEC 60974-4 has been prepared by IEC technical committee 26:
105 Electric welding.
106 This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2016. It constitutes a
107 technical revision.
108 The main significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition are the following:
109 • Examples for the measurements in respect of EN 50699, Recurrent Test of Electrical
110 Equipment and EN 50678, General procedure for verifying the effectiveness of the
111 protective measures of electrical equipment after repair;
112 • Consideration of measuring equipment in respect of IEC 61557-series, Electrical safety in
113 low voltage distribution systems up to 1 000 V AC and 1 500 V DC - Equipment for testing,
114 measuring or monitoring of protective measures;
115 • More determinations of NO-LOAD VOLTAGE for welding equipment built according to IEC
116 60974-1:1998+AMD1:20002005 or earlier;

26/761/CDV 5 IEC CDV 60974-4 © IEC 2024
117 • New Annex D providing additional information to be considered when testing battery-
118 powered WELDING POWER SOURCES and connected chargers;
