Influence of organic materials on water intended for human consumption - Determination of odour and flavour assessment of water in piping systems

This European Standard specifies a procedure for obtaining a migration water to determine odour and flavour for products made from organic materials intended to come in contact with water for human consumption (drinking water) and used in piping systems. Such products include pipes, fittings, ancillaries and coatings.
This standard is applicable to products to be used under various conditions for the transport, storage and distribution of water intended for human consumption and raw water used for the manufacture of water intended for human consumption.
This standard specifies a test method comprising of a set of procedures. The use may be dependent on the relevant national regulations and/or the system or product standards.

Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Gewinnung eines Migrationswassers zur Bestimmung von Geruch und Geschmack von Produkten aus organischen Materialien fest, die für den Kontakt mit Wasser zum menschlichen Gebrauch (Trinkwasser) vorgesehen sind und in Rohrleitungssystemen verwendet werden. Solche Produkte beinhalten Rohre, Formstücke, Ausrüstungsgegenstände und Beschichtungen.
Diese Norm ist auf Produkte anwendbar, die unter verschiedenen Bedingungen für Transport, Lagerung und Verteilung von Wasser für den menschlichen Gebrauch und Rohwasser, das zu Wasser für den menschlichen Gebrauch aufbereitet werden soll, vorgesehen sind.
Diese Norm legt ein Prüfverfahren fest, das aus einer Anzahl von Verfahren besteht. Die Anwendung kann von den einschlägigen nationalen Vorschriften und/oder den System- oder Produktnormen abhängig sein.

Influence des matériaux organiques sur l'eau destinée à la consommation humaine - Détermination de l'odeur et de la flaveur de l'eau dans les réseaux de conduites

La présente Norme européenne spécifie un mode opératoire permettant d’obtenir une eau de migration pour déterminer l’odeur et la flaveur des produits à base de matériaux organiques conçus pour être en contact avec l’eau destinée à la consommation humaine (eau potable) et utilisés dans les réseaux de conduites. Ces produits sont notamment les tubes, les raccords, les accessoires et les revêtements.
La présente norme est applicable aux produits conçus pour être utilisés dans différentes conditions de transport, stockage et distribution de l’eau destinée à la consommation humaine et de l’eau brute utilisée pour produire de l’eau destinée à la consommation humaine.
Elle spécifie une méthode d’essai comprenant un ensemble de modes opératoires. L’utilisation peut dépendre des réglementations nationales de référence et/ou des normes de système ou de produit.

Overview

EN 1420:2016 (CEN) specifies a standardized procedure for obtaining migration water and assessing odour and flavour of water after contact with organic materials used in piping systems. It applies to factory-made and site-applied products - including pipes, fittings, ancillaries and coatings - that come into contact with water intended for human consumption and raw water used to produce drinking water.

This standard defines migration test conditions (cold and elevated temperature), requirements for test waters (chlorinated and unchlorinated), pretreatment (flushing, stagnation, prewashing) and sensory evaluation by a qualified panel to determine Threshold Odour Number (TON) and Threshold Flavour Number (TFN).
