Overview
SIST EN IEC 62841-3-15:2026/A11:2026 is an amendment to the existing European Standard for the safety of electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools, and lawn and garden machinery. This specific part, Part 3-15, addresses particular safety requirements for transportable magnetic drills, covering essential modifications and updates to ensure these machines meet the latest EU regulatory and technical standards. Developed by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), this amendment aims to enhance operator safety, minimize risks, and improve clarity on both design and operational aspects for manufacturers, users, and authorities.
Key Topics
Scope of Hazards Covered
The amendment emphasizes identification and control of significant hazards associated with transportable magnetic drills, ensuring comprehensive protection for operators and maintenance personnel.Abnormal Operation
Updates focus on preventing unintended restarts after power failures, requiring power switches to be manually reset before the tool can be operated again.Construction Requirements
Enhanced construction stipulations, such as robust supply cords and safety mechanisms for battery-driven models, are addressed to increase durability and prevent accidental operation.Supply Connections
Specifies the quality and specification of supply cords, ensuring they meet heavy-duty standards like H07RN-F or H07BQ-F for reliability and user safety.Noise and Vibration Measurement
Clear procedures for testing and evaluating noise emissions and vibration are outlined, ensuring that tools comply with occupational health limits and user comfort standards.Battery Tool Safety
Battery-powered magnetic drills must include isolation or disabling devices to avoid unintentional startup and ensure safe maintenance. Reliance on batteries for critical magnetic holds is explicitly prohibited to ensure stability and safety.EU Regulatory Alignment
Includes detailed references and correspondence with essential health and safety requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, supporting effortless market entry and regulatory compliance across Europe.
Applications
This standard applies mainly to:
Manufacturers of Transportable Magnetic Drills
Ensures design, construction, and documentation are compliant with European safety expectations.Testing and Certification Bodies
Provides a reference for conformity assessment, testing procedures, and product certification.Industrial Users
Promotes safer use in sectors such as construction, metalworking, and fabrication, lowering risks of accident and machinery failure.Importers and Distributors
Facilitates the placing of compliant products on European markets and supports risk management in supply chains.
Complying with SIST EN IEC 62841-3-15:2026/A11:2026 fosters customer confidence, boosts operational uptime, and reduces liability related to workplace accidents involving magnetic drills.

The Part 3-15 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in EN 62841-1:2015 and all of its
amendments and corrigenda (if any), so as to convert it into the European Standard: Particular requirements
for transportable magnetic drills.
Where a particular subclause of Part 1 is not mentioned in the Part 3-15, that subclause applies as far as
relevant. When this document states “addition”, “modification” or “replacement”, the relevant text in Part 1 is to
be adapted accordingly.
The following print types are used:

This document follows the overall requirements of EN ISO 12100.
This document has been prepared under a standardization request given to CENELEC by the European
Commission. The Standing Committee of the EFTA States subsequently approves these requests for its
members.
For the relationship with EU Legislation, see informative Annex ZZ, which is an integral part of this document.
Compliance with the clauses of Part 1 together with Part 3-15 provides one means of conforming with the
essential health and safety requirements of the Directive concerned.
