SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 is Amendment 2 to EN 61811-1:2015 for electromechanical telecom elementary relays of assessed quality. It updates the generic specification and blank detail specification used for these relays, with changes to a relay construction type, test voltages, and the detail-specification front-page template. It is meant for people who specify, design, test, or document these relay types.

What does SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 specify?

SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 specifies changes to the existing European standard for electromechanical telecom elementary relays of assessed quality. The amendment is organized around Clause 3, Annex B, and Annex C.

PartWhat it covers
Clause 3A new relay construction type entry
Annex BRevised dielectric test voltages and impulse test voltages
Annex CRevised blank detail-specification layout and a new Type 5 example

The amendment is focused on relay specification and documentation, not on a separate product family. In practice, it tells users how to classify one relay type, what test levels to apply, and how to present the product data in a detail specification.

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026?

SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 adds a new relay construction type and updates the test and documentation provisions around it. The practical effect is that manufacturers and test labs must use the revised type definition, the revised test voltages, and the revised detail-specification template together.

Relay construction type

Clause 3 adds type 5. SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 defines it as a relay with two change-over contacts and a maximum 9.1 mm × 4.9 mm base. That matters because a product can only be declared as this construction type when it matches that definition.

Dielectric and impulse testing

Annex B replaces the dielectric test voltage table and the impulse test voltage table. SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 keeps the test paths grouped by relay type and by circuit condition, including opened contact circuits, adjacent contact circuits, coil to contact circuits, and separated windings if applicable. In practice, this means the test house must select the correct values for the declared relay type before carrying out withstand testing.

The impulse table also distinguishes pulse shapes for different test paths. That matters because the waveform is part of the test condition, so a relay is not tested correctly if the wrong pulse shape is used.

Blank detail specification format

Annex C updates the front-page examples for the blank detail specification. SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 says the front-page layout follows the examples in C.1.2 to C.1.8, with the key given in C.1.7, and adds a Type 5 example in C.1.8.

The example front page includes fields for type, construction, application, coil data, contact data, climatic category, and temperature range. For users, this is the part that turns the generic standard into a relay-specific document that can be checked, purchased, and tested against a known configuration.

Mandatory and illustrative parts

Annex C also makes a practical distinction between examples and mandatory information. The drawings are examples, but the maximum outer dimensions, the wiring diagram of one coil relay, the terminal arrangement, and the orientation of rectangular terminals are mandatory. That helps engineers see which parts of the layout they may adapt and which parts must stay fixed.

Intended application

The example front page states that relays according to this standard are provided for telecommunication applications and are also suitable, as printed circuit board relays, for control or switching functions in particular industrial and other applications. That helps buyers judge whether the relay family matches the intended service environment.

What terms does SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 define?

  • Type 5 - A relay construction type added by the amendment for two change-over contacts on a 9.1 mm × 4.9 mm maximum base.
  • Blank detail specification - The template used to complete the product-specific specification for a relay under this standard.
  • Change-over contacts - The contact arrangement named in the Type 5 definition and in the detail-specification example.
  • Dielectric test voltages - The a.c. withstand test values given in Annex B for the different circuit paths.
  • Impulse test voltages - The surge test values given in Annex B, identified by pulse shape and test path.
  • Monostable - An operating-condition label shown in the front-page examples.
  • Latching - Another operating-condition label shown in the front-page examples.

Who uses SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026?

SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 is used by relay manufacturers, test laboratories, and engineers who prepare or review detail specifications for assessed-quality electromechanical telecom relays. Quality managers use it to check product documentation and test evidence, while buyers use it to compare relay configurations and confirm the intended application. It is also relevant to teams working with printed circuit board relays in telecommunication, control, and switching applications.

What changed in SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 from the previous edition?

SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 is Amendment 2 to EN 61811-1:2015. The amendment adds the Type 5 construction entry in Clause 3, replaces the dielectric test voltage table and impulse test voltage table in Annex B, and adds a new Type 5 front-page example in Annex C. It also revises the text for the front-page layout in C.1.1 and extends the key to front pages in C.1.7.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026?

SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 uses IEC 61811-1 as the base standard that this amendment updates. The Annex C example front page also names IEC 61810-1, IEC 61810-2, and IEC 61810-7 as companion standards for the electromechanical components detail-specification framework. IEC 60068-1 is cited in the example for the climatic category reference.

What does the SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 document contain?

SIST EN 61811-1:2015/A2:2026 contains one added construction-type definition, revised Annex B tables for dielectric and impulse testing, and revised Annex C example pages for a blank detail specification. The Annex C material shows how to structure the relay-specific document and which product data fields it should include. It is mainly used for drafting specifications, checking test plans, and reviewing product documentation against the relay family covered by the standard.

AMENDMENT 2
FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between
any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.
5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
services carried out by independent certification bodies.
6) All users should ens
