This standard does not cover refrigerated vending machines. This part gives information concerning the installation and maintenance of commercial refrigerated cabinets and is a guide to users.

The scope of this European Standard is to define the classification for horizontal closed ice-cream freezers and to specify their requirements and test methods. These appliances are different to supermarket segment freezers, as they work with static air cooling, with a skin evaporator (no evaporator fan) and are used specifically for the storage and display of pre-packed ice-cream. This standard is only applicable to integral type refrigeration systems. This standard is not applicable to remote and secondary system type cabinets. Ice-cream freezers within this standard should have a net volume ≤ 600 l and only for transparent lid ice cream freezers they should have a Net Volume/TDA ≥ 0,35 m.

This European Standard provides test or calculation methods to assess thermal insulation performances for customized walk-in cold rooms and components under normal end-use conditions.
The normal end-use conditions of a walk-in cold room are considered to be:
-   installation inside an existing building;
-   not exposed to external weather conditions;
-   internal side of panels subject to temperatures within the indicative range −40 °C ≤ T ≤ 12 °C;
-   external side of panels subject to temperatures within the indicative range −8 °C ≤ T ≤ 30 °C; temperatures below 0 °C, or higher than 20 °C, can be reached if the walk-in cold room is located inside not air-conditioned premises.
NOTE   In case the customized walk-in cold room working at medium storage temperature is used as a food processing room or a clean room, the standard is applied.

NOTE   Specific requirements for roll-in cabinet, pass-through cabinet and cabinets with remote condensing unit are under discussion.
-   cabinets with water cooled condenser;
-   blast chilling and freezing tunnels;
-   continuous blast-chilling and blast-freezing equipment;
-   bakery combined freezing and storage units.
