Overview
SIST EN 60901:2001/FprA6:2014/oprAA:2017 provides performance specifications for single-capped fluorescent lamps. As a draft amendment established by CLC/TC 34A (Lamps) under the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), this standard aligns with essential requirements of EU directives, ecodesign, and energy labelling regulations. The document is intended to harmonize European performance and testing requirements for single-capped fluorescent lamps with existing international standards and EU regulations, providing a clear framework for manufacturers, regulators, and market surveillance bodies.
This standard supports conformity to EC Regulation 245/2009, concerning eco-design requirements, and EU Regulation 874/2012, concerning energy labelling for lighting products. It includes normative and informative annexes defining the relationship between the standard and these regulations.
Key Topics
- Lamp Performance Specifications: Sets out essential test methods for lamp efficacy, luminous flux, chromaticity, color temperature, and color rendering index.
- Test Methods & Parameters:
- Luminous flux and lamp power measured under specified conditions.
- Calculation of lamp efficacy (lm/W) based on luminous flux and consumed power.
- Color properties determined per CIE publications.
- Lamp Lumen Maintenance Factor (LLMF): Defines the ratio of lamp light output at a specified time to initial output, indicating performance over the lamp’s lifetime.
- Lamp Survival Factor (LSF): Measures the proportion of lamps still operating after a defined test period, ensuring product reliability.
- Mercury Content Measurement: Specifies testing methods for mercury content, using approved European standards (e.g., EN 62321-4, EN 62554).
- Product Compliance: Details procedures for demonstrating conformity to EU eco-design and energy labelling regulations, aiding market access and surveillance.
Applications
SIST EN 60901:2001/FprA6:2014/oprAA:2017 is applicable primarily to:
- Manufacturers and Importers: Ensures product compliance with harmonized European requirements for performance and environmental regulations. Supports CE marking and facilitates access to EU markets.
- Certification and Regulatory Bodies: Provides a consistent and transparent basis for assessing conformity, market surveillance, and enforcement actions on single-capped fluorescent lamps.
- Lighting Designers and Specifiers: Enables accurate comparison of lamp performance for building installations and retrofits, supporting informed product selection for energy efficiency and lighting quality.
- Laboratories and Test Houses: Sets clear guidelines for performance measurement, including photometric and colorimetric testing as well as mercury content evaluation.
Related Standards
SIST EN 60901:2001/FprA6:2014/oprAA:2017 is closely linked to several other international and European standards, promoting a harmonized approach to lamp performance and safety:
- IEC 60901 – International equivalent for single-capped fluorescent lamps
- EN 61199 – Safety specifications for single-capped fluorescent lamps
- EN 60081 – Performance specifications for double-capped fluorescent lamps
- EN 13032-1 – Photometric data measurement and presentation
- EN 62321-4 – Methods for measuring mercury content in lamps
- EN 62554 – Lamp sample preparation for mercury analysis
- EN 60598-1 – General requirements and tests for luminaires
The standard also cross-references Commission Regulations (EC) 245/2009 (eco-design) and (EU) 874/2012 (energy labelling), ensuring compliance with mandatory EU directives.
Summary: SIST EN 60901:2001/FprA6:2014/oprAA:2017 is essential for businesses and organizations involved with single-capped fluorescent lamps, providing clear, harmonized performance specifications that support compliance with European eco-design and energy labelling legislation, thus facilitating improved product quality, energy efficiency, and market acceptance.
